Halo Wars 2 Art Leaks

Halo Wars 2 Art Leaks

A Twitter user and self-described ‘XBLA watchdog’ leaks two pieces of supposed Halo Wars 2 art, both of which offer up some details about the upcoming RTS game.

Ever since Microsoft announced last year that Halo Wars 2 was coming to Xbox One and Windows 10, very little has been heard about the upcoming real-time strategy game. Aside from featuring on Microsoft’s 2016 exclusives list a few months ago, players have been left in the dark as to what they can expect from the game. But if a new art leak is indeed legitimate, we may have our first indication on what may be featured in Halo Wars 2.

Just recently, Twitter user and self-described “XBLA watchdog” lifelower tweeted up two pieces of Halo Wars 2 art. While both pictures were essentially the same, they offered up some very interesting information regarding the game’s setting and enemies. The first notable thing about the leaked artwork is that the Ark from the final battle in Halo 3 is featured, and seeing as how the installation looks intact, this suggests that Halo Wars 2 will be set before that game.

This pre-Halo 3 setting is further reinforced based on the pillar-like structure locate just underneath the Ark, which looks very similar to the towers featured in the Halo 3 mission “The Covenant”. Moving downwards on the artwork, it is clear that twin Scarabs will be making a return. Given that this version of the Scarab features some heavier armor – and taking into account that the Halo Wars 2 teaser trailer featured a snarling Brute – there’s a possibility that this may be a Brute variant of the walking tank.

As for the lower half of the image, an unknown platform can be seen shooting rockets, suggesting that Halo Wars 2 may feature some new vehicles. And finally, the foreground depicts a mix of Spartans and marines going head-to-head in combat. Based on the sheer number of Spartans in the image, this again indicates that Halo Wars 2 will be set before Halo 3 during the Human-Covenant war.

While the leaked artwork is pretty convincing, it has not yet been confirmed whether it is legitimate. But with E3 2016 just around the corner, fans can expect Microsoft to shed some light on the leaked artwork, as well as more details on Halo Wars 2, during its press conference.

With the upcoming release of Halo Wars 2 this year, and Halo 6 currently in pre-production, this all suggests that the Halo franchise will remain a focus for Microsoft for the time being. Given that Halo Wars 2 is expected to make an appearance at this year’s E3, we’ll keep everyone posted on any news and announcements related to that game and the Halo series.

Halo Wars 2 is scheduled for a 2016 Fall release for Xbox One and Windows 10.
