This Witcher 3 Statue Might Put You In Debt

A new collectible statue depicting The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt protagonist Geralt post-battle is so expensive that fans can opt to buy it using a payment plan.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is absolutely raking it in. Not only is the base game still making big bucks for developer CD Projekt RED over a year after its initial release, but the recently released The Witcher 3 Game of the Year edition is also likely doing wonders for CD Projekt’s bank balance. However, it’s not only Geralt’s virtual adventures that are helping the franchise to make bank, as a new Witcher 3 statue is likely to bring in the cash too – although it could put some serious fans of the game, and game memorabilia collectors, in some serious debt.
Set to be available from Sideshow Collectibles in (approximately) nine months is a statue of Geralt of Rivia himself. When it arrives in 2017, the “meticulously crafted” 26 inch statue depicts The Witcher 3 protagonist resting on the head of a “ferocious beast” post-battle, and will set buyers back by a whopping $770.
The statue, which is made of polystone (a durable artificial stone made from a resin), is so pricey that it even has a payment plan. So, players who don’t have that much money on hand right now do have the option to pay for it monthly. For as little as $86.62 a month, cash-strapped fans of the character can get their hands on the statue.
On the one hand, it’s easy to sniff at the price of the Geralt statue as it’s certainly not the most expensive bit of gaming memoribilia to be sold. Some of the most expensive video game special editions ever include a Dying Light pack that cost over a quarter of a million dollars and included a custom bit zombie apocalypse shelter, and a Saints Row pack that included a replica of an in-game gun as well as plastic surgery and even a flight to outer space for a cool $1 million. Lest not forget that the most rare vintage games go for many thousands of dollars too.
On the other, though, plenty of Witcher fans will be asking why the price of the statue couldn’t be a little lower – after all, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the end of Geralt’s story (even if The Witcher series will continue). Moreover, CD Projekt RED is set to fully launch series spin-off Gwent, which is also expected to make plenty, and some argue that the developer doesn’t need the money. With the statue’s release still many moons away, movement on the price could happen, but it may be best to save up some pennies just in case.
