Star Wars Battlefront Offers Double XP this Weekend

EA’s Star Wars Battlefront is hosting a double XP weekend for its players as part of a promotion for today’s release of Episode VII: The Force Awakens.

With today, the 18th of December, marking the release of the highly anticipated Star Wars Episode VII, Electronic Arts is offering players a chance to earn double experience points in Star Wars Battlefront.

Playing matches on Star Wars Battlefront‘s multiplayer mode will net players a score boost and, in turn, extra credits. This not only allows players to rank up quicker, but will also help players to unlock any outstanding Star Cards, emotes and more. The “Double Score” weekend starts today at 1 AM PST and ends on Monday, December 21 at 1 AM PST. According to EA’s recent blog post:

“No matter how many times you’re planning on watching the movie this weekend, there will be plenty of time to take advantage.”

Last week, Battlefront released its special movie Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens tie-in DLC, Battle of Jakku, which was released free of charge to all players. The expansion consists of a new map named Jakku as well as a 40-player mode called Turning Point. The content takes place 29 years before the events of The Force Awakens. As for how the battle ties into the film, gamers will have to watch it to find out.

Battlefront released to mixed reviews, with the initial excitement generated by the game fading soon after the release due to significant gameplay issues. Although the game initially reported “underwhelming sales“, Battlefront is likely to receive a significant boost from the popularity of the The Force Awakens. EA seems confident that the multiplayer game can sell as many as 13 million copies during the course of its lifetime, an estimate that is up from the company’s earlier prediction of 10 million.

Only a week after the game’s release, one talented fan managed to create an unbelievable photorealism mod which changes Battlefront‘s already impressive graphics to the point of looking like real life environments. With a community as vast as the Star Wars fandom, it’s very likely that PC players will soon have access to a full range of mods, improving the game in a number of ways. With a little luck, EA will let the modding community stay active and we’ll see some equally impressive game changes in the near future.

For all those who are yet to pick up a copy of EA’s latest game, there’s no time like the present. Recently, GameStop has dropped Star Wars Battlefront by $20 reducing its price to only $39.99 as part of its weekly Christmas sales. For those ordering online, you can also receive free shipping if you enter promo code “SAVER” during checkout. You can also pick up the game as part of a PS4 bundle deal and ordering it today will still get you the console in time for Christmas.

Star Wars Battlefront is available now for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
