Infinite Warfare Beta Leads To Positive Changes

Infinite Warfare Beta Leads To Positive Changes

With the beta now officially over, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare multiplayer designer Joe Cecot reveals that new changes coming to the game based on player feedback.

It’s been a long road for Infinity Ward since the initial reveal of its next Call of Duty game. With a greater focus on space and sci-fi, gamers wasted no time in letting the developer know what they thought as the reveal trailer for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare received a massive amount of dislikes and negative comments. Since then, however, community relations have steadily improved and thanks to a couple of beta test weekends, it seems a good amount of constructive feedback has come in as well.

In a new post on the official Activision blog, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare multiplayer designer Joe Cecot not only thanked fans for their feedback over the past couple weekends for the beta but that the final product as a whole will benefit greatly. Player insights have helped lead to discoveries resulting in better optimization on its matchmaking system and a number of balance tweaks have been applied to various weapons and equipment as well.

Unfortunately, Cecot did not provide any details or specifics on what Infinity Ward will be updating or changing in regards to the multiplayer based on player feedback. He did reaffirm that the developer is taking steps to improve the game however. With Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare set to launch in just a few weeks, any substantial changes will likely need to be added through post-launch updates anyway.

Our open beta gave us the learning we need to make our launch as great as possible. We can’t wait to apply what we’ve learned and show you more of our game as we update and develop it further with your input. Again, thank you from all of us at the studio. Now, let’s reach new heights and continue the conversation through launch and beyond.

While many may view beta tests as glorified demos, it’s clear that these events mean a lot to developers and often result in substantial changes to the end product. The most recent example of course is Titanfall 2, where the first beta weekend kicked off a firestorm of disgruntled players. While many were unhappy with a few of the changes to familiar mechanics from the first game, Respawn Entertainment listened to much of the feedback and updated the base game in time for the second weekend of testing. Based on player feedback after the second test, things seemed to have resulted in a much more positive experience for players after those changes were applied.
