Destiny: Iron Banner Returns Next Week

Get ready, Destiny‘s Iron Banner event returns Tuesday of next week with Control as the game mode, but the real focus will be on one of its weapon rewards.

Just as Destiny players are getting ready to say goodbye to Festival of the Lost, Bungie is set to launch yet another event to take its place. Iron Banner will return for the second time during Rise of Iron and this time things are returning to normal. More importantly, the rewards for this upcoming Iron Banner are going to be on every PvP player’s radar.

First and foremost, Iron Banner will be live for all Destiny players starting on November 8th. Unlike Festival of the Lost, which launched right at reset, the monthly Crucible event will go live at the usual 10am time slot. There’s no word on if the launch will also include a patch, but that seems unlikely at this point.

Control will once again be the name of the game for Iron Banner, a return to form for the event. That isn’t to say last month’s venture into the new Supremacy mode was a complete failure, but Supremacy’s reliance on close quarters combat highlighted Destiny’s PvP imbalance. Basically, the mode was overrun with shotguns and little else.

As far as the Iron Banner rewards are concerned, everyone should take notice. This Iron Banner will include the Clever Dragon pulse rifle among its rewards, along with the Silvered Dread heavy machine gun, gauntlets, and boots.

But truthfully, the Clever Dragon is going to be the hot item this Iron Banner for several reasons. For starters, the pulse rifle’s archetype is very similar to the Grasp of Malok, one of the best PvP weapons in the game. On top of that, the Clever Dragon has fewer weapon perks in its RNG pool, meaning players have a better chance of a getting a “god roll.” That’s assuming they put the time and effort into grinding Iron Banner, of course. But trust us when we say the Clever Dragon is worth the grind; it didn’t make it onto our list of the best Rise of Iron weapons for nothing.

Crucible fanatics may say that there are better weapons out there than the Clever Dragon, but getting a good roll on weapons like the Palindrome, Eyasluna, or Grasp of Malok is heavily RNG based. Getting a Clever Dragon, on the other hand, is going to be very easy and it’s very likely everyone will come out with at least a decent roll.

How that will impact Destiny’s PvP moving forward is unclear, but at the very least it evens the playing field for the foreseeable future. Those who prefer pulse rifles but have never found a good roll on a Grasp or The Waltz can simply grind their way to a good Clever Dragon, assuming they have the time and RNG is on their side.

But even if you don’t care about PvP weapons, Iron Banner has proven to be a great way to level up. With every drop capable of scaling up to 400 light level, most players should see a major bump by the time Iron Banner is over.

Destiny: Rise of Iron is out now for PS4 and Xbox One.
