Telltale's Marvel Game Stars Guardians of the Galaxy

Telltale's Marvel Game Stars Guardians of the Galaxy

The union that represents video game voice actors uploads a list of upcoming titles to its website, possibly spilling the beans on Telltale’s 2017 Marvel game.

SAG-AFTRA, the union that represents many video game voice actors as well as others in Hollywood, authorized a strike in October against some game developers and production studios. The move has caused work to cease on many currently-in-development games, which could now be at risk of delay. While that’s certainly not good news, the strike may also be responsible for pulling the veil off a major upcoming title.

Back on November 1, the union updated a list of games on its website that are not currently impacted by the strike and it appears to contain quite a few unannounced projects. Warpzoned notes that one of the more interesting titles is Guardians of the Galaxy: The Video Game, which is codenamed as ‘Blue Harvest’ on the list.

The production studio working on the Guardians game is listed as O’Farrell Enterprises, LLC and that’s not especially newsworthy by itself. But directly underneath the Guardians entry on the list is another game the studio is working on, “The Walking Dead: Season 3”. Most gamers will recognize that as The Walking Dead: Season Three – A New Frontier by Telltale Games, which will release later this month.

Telltale Marvel Announcement

From there, it doesn’t take much detective work to conclude that the Guardians of the Galaxy game is likely also a Telltale title. Telltale Games said in April last year that it was working with Marvel on an upcoming game, stating that the title would feature an “iconic property” and release in 2017 for PC and consoles. The second Guardians of the Galaxy movie hits theaters on May 5 next year. Finally, PC Gamer notes that SAG-AFTRA edited the initial list once the media started reporting on it, with the new sheet simply calling the project, “Untitled Marvel Game.”

While Game Rant didn’t include the Guardians on its list of 10 Marvel Characters We Want Telltale Games to adapt, this news should prove exciting for fans of both the developer and the comic book company. The first Guardians movie in 2014 won over fans with its humor and silly vibe, and should give Telltale quite a bit of material to work with. Many of Telltale’s recent adaptions, such as Batman and Game of Thrones have taken on a darker tone, but the company does have some experience crafting a more humorous adventure, most notably 2014’s Tales from the Borderlands.

Telltale’s unannounced Marvel project will release in 2017 for PC and consoles.
