WWE 2K16 Weekly Roster Update

WWE 2K16 Weekly Roster Update

On the heels of epic NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn and SummerSlam events this past weekend, WWE is riding high, and what better way to celebrate than with another roster update for the upcoming WWE 2K16? With this week’s update, 2K Sports edges ever close to achieving the goal of having the largest roster in series history, bringing the total now to a whopping 58 wrestlers.

But before checking out the list of the newly revealed wrestlers that will be stepping in the ring for WWE 2K16 come this October, be sure to watch some fresh gameplay footage, uploaded by PWIinsderTV, which can be found at the top of this page. It offers a glimpse into the Steve Austin career mode, depicting his famous King of the Ring encounter with Jake “The Snake” Roberts, as well as showcases some current talent, such as Kevin Owens and Finn Balor.

In the meantime, this week sees 20 new wrestlers added to the roster, with some names that should be familiar to fans of 90’s professional wrestling especially:

  • Aiden English
  • Alicia Fox
  • Bam Bam Bigelow
  • The Big Show
  • Cameron
  • Cesaro
  • Darren Young
  • Diamond Dallas Page
  • Dolph Ziggler
  • Finlay
  • Kevin Nash
  • Layla
  • Lex Luger
  • The Miz
  • Naomi
  • Randy Orton
  • Sheamus
  • Simon Gotch
  • Titus O’Neil
  • Tyson Kidd

For one reason or another, IGN’s Weekly Update forgot to mention that Aiden English and Simon Gotch, the NXT tag team duo collectively known as The Vaudevillains, have also been confirmed for the game over the course of this past weekend.

In any case, the really interesting bit to take away from this week’s update is its heavy representation of former WCW wrestlers. This includes Bam Bam Bigelow, Diamond Dallas Page, Finlay, Kevin Nash, Lex Luger, and let’s not forget that The Big Show’s career actually began in WCW. Of course, all of the aforementioned wrestlers also had careers in the WWE, in some cases quite substantial, but they’re almost all better known for their WCW tenures. Furthermore, Finlay’s appearance seems to be based on how he looked in WCW in the 90’s, with the longer hair, as opposed to the buzz cut he sported during his WWE run a few years back.

These newly announced wrestlers join fellow WCW alum such as Sting, and their addition seems to confirm that this year’s WWE 2K game will have a heavy focus on WCW. This makes sense, considering the game’s primary story mode will be focused on cover athlete “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, who spent his formative wrestling years as “Stunning” Steve Austin in WCW.

Many fans were unconvinced that 2K Sports would be able to live up to their lofty promise of providing the largest roster in the history of the series, but so far, the roster is shaping up to be quite impressive and well-rounded. The lack of arguably the most famous professional wrestler of all time, Hulk Hogan, is a bummer for sure, though completely understandable considering his recent controversies, and somewhat offset by the hilarious inclusion of The Terminator as a pre-order bonus. With Hulk Hogan cut and The Terminator as a playable character, it will definitely be interesting to see who else is announced for the game in the next few weeks leading up to its release.

Are you impressed with the already massive WWE 2K16 roster? Who do you want to see added that has yet to be announced?

WWE 2K16 will be available beginning October 27th for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
