Xbox Talks Modern Warfare 3 Backward Compatibility

Following the appearance of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion as Black Friday Xbox One sales, Xbox speaks up about each game’s potential backward compatibility.
So far, Microsoft has managed to make a wide number of games available through Xbox One backward compatibility, including such hugely popular games as Gears of War and certain Call of Duty titles. Recently, fans of the aforementioned first-person shooter series were given hope that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 would also see a backward compatible release, after the game appeared on the Xbox Live Black Friday sales page, alongside The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. Now, Xbox has spoken out about this mysterious listing.
Unfortunately for fans of both games, it appears as though the announcement was made in error. Xbox guru Major Nelson has confirmed as much on Twitter, advising that both listings were not meant to go up. This is bound to be bad news for those who remember Modern Warfare 3 or Oblivion and were hoping to see the games get a new lease of life on the current console generation.
The games showed up initially on Microsoft’s Black Friday sales page, alongside plenty of games that had already been announced for backward compatibility. Perhaps understandably, this perked the interest of many Xbox gamers, who in turn went straight to Major Nelson with their queries. Unfortunately, this marks the end of this speculation – at least for now. After all, Microsoft has not ruled out either game being added to the backward compatibility roster altogether.
November has proved to be a big month for Xbox One backward compatibility. Those wanting to play through the entirety of the Mass Effect trilogy on Xbox One were given a chance to, with the addition of Mass Effect 2 and 3 to the roster. Hopefully, more quality games will continue to be added to the list as the months roll by.
Major Nelson promised a big Black Friday for Xbox this year, and so far the company has delivered. Alongside a wide number of games with big discounts (albeit with the omission of Modern Warfare 3 and Oblivion for Xbox One), Microsoft also has deals available on Xbox One consoles. Those interested in seeing the deals can do so over at the Black Friday sales page.
Some gamers were a little concerned about exactly how far the backward compatibility program would go, particularly with the upcoming arrival of the Xbox Scorpio. However, Xbox engineering lead Mike Ybarra has confirmed that the 4K console will also be backward compatible with Xbox 360 games. With that in mind, there are no doubt more games to come in future.
