Pokemon Sun/Moon Take Longer to Load on Standard 3DS

According to a side-by-side comparison video, the recently released Pokemon Sun and Moon take longer to load on a standard 3DS versus the New Nintendo 3DS.
With Pokemon Sun and Moon having been out in the wild for several days now, it’s safe to presume that there are plenty gamers trying to catch ’em all, no matter if it’s on the 2DS, standard 3DS, or the New Nintendo 3DS XL. However, some fans using older hardware to play either of the titles might be lagging behind when it comes to nabbing each and every type of the games’ Alola creature forms, for it seems as if the releases run somewhat slower on a vanilla 3DS XL as opposed to the New Nintendo 3DS XL line of handhelds.
As evidenced in the video below from the YouTuber known as bagszipoke, Pokemon Sun and Moon sport a superior performance on the New Nintendo 3DS, while the standard edition of the system takes a little while longer to boot the games up. The difference in load times is actually quite considerable, as the older 3DS XL requires about 20 seconds more just to make it to the introductory screens.
It’s important to note that a digital copy of Pokemon Moon was used and installed on a 32GB Class10 Sandisk MicroSD in the clip above to display the disparity in load times on the 3DS XL and New 3DS XL. Even though this is the case, it doesn’t change the fact that the former handheld boots the game up slower than the latter.
Naturally, this isn’t the first instance of the New 3DS XL boasting better performance than its precursors, for games such as Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS load at an incredibly quick rate on the console. Not to mention, just in order to play some of the newer games on the older versions of the handhelds, certain features occasionally have to be disabled on more bygone units.
Of course, none of this is to say that Pokemon Sun or Moon are to blame for these shortcomings on the older versions of the 3DS. As a matter of fact, despite developers’ decision to take a rather large gamble in altering some of the core elements of the franchise’s gameplay formula, the risk paid off in a big way, as indicated in our overwhelmingly positive review for the games.
Bearing all of this in mind, should there be fans out there on older hardware who would want to jump into Pokemon Sun and Moon‘s action a lot more quickly, the obvious decision is to upgrade to the New Nintendo 3DS XL. However, not everyone is going to be able to afford the transition. With this being the case, there are thankfully plenty of Black Friday deals coming up to help those gamers in need of deep discounts on both hardware and software.
