It’s a VR Black Friday season as gamers everywhere are looking to scoop up deals on the PlayStation VR (none so far), Oculus Rift (also none so far), and the HTC Vive (ding ding ding – we have a winner). Earlier this week at the official Vive blog, they announced a Black Friday and Cyber Monday sale on the HTC Vive – discounting the entire system by $100
What’s special today is that one lone retailer decided to up the ante by tossing in a big $100 gift code as an extra bonus (that’s good for almost two Steam VR titles!).
This same $100 discount to $699 can be found on Amazon, GameStop, and Best Buy. However, one should really buy from Microsoft because of that $100 Gift Code.
On Thanksgiving Thursday, the Microsoft Store first started offering the $100 Gift Code bonus to lure customers in. There’s a slight joke on early adopters if they ordered on Thursday, because less than 24 hours later they could not only get the Gift Code bonus but they also get $100 off. If anyone has already ordered, one may be able to get Microsoft to update the price without having to cancel the order.
The HTC Vive comes with two games: The Gallery – Episode 1: Call of the Starseed and Zombie Training Simulator. Both are $20 games on Steam right now, so that’s relatively $40 in savings right off the bat (granted all system bundles will include these two games with the HTC Vive).
One needs a relatively high end PC to run the HTC Vive. Minimum system requires at least a GeForce GTX 970 or AMD Radeon R9 480 graphics card plus a Core i5-4590 or AMD FX 8350 or better CPU.
Beyond the titles mentioned above, many Triple-As will slowly make their way to VR land as we head into 2017. With sales ramping up and profit being earned on each unit – it will be interesting to see how the HTC Vive fare after the Black Friday sales promotion.
