Far Cry Primal Collector's Edition, DLC Revealed

Far Cry Primal Collector's Edition, DLC Revealed

Ubisoft reveals the Far Cry Primal DLC as well as the Far Cry Primal Collector’s Edition, which features a language book, a map of Oros, and the official soundtrack.

When it launches next year, Ubisoft’s first person adventure Far Cry Primal will take people to the Stone Age. In a gameplay trailer that debuted at The Game Awards 2015 last night, fans saw how player character Takkar would not only be able to tame the game’s wild animals (such as dire-wolves and bears), but also how his ‘Beast Master’ skill allows the protagonist to command prehistoric predators to attack enemies.

The reveal was one of 10 premieres to take place at The Game Awards last night, including new Uncharted 4 footage and the announcement of Psychonauts 2. Although the gameplay trailer was exciting, it’s not the only thing Ubisoft has revealed about the game. The company has now announced Far Cry Primal DLC, and the game’s Collector’s Edition too.

The Far Cry Primal downloadable content, Ubisoft says, is comprised of four ‘Legend of the Mammoth’ missions, a resource pack and an exclusive weapon. The new missions offer almost 45 minutes of extra gameplay as players battle “a powerful rhino spirit” to “assert their dominance” (duel of beasts), free an elder who’s being held hostage by hunters (the trapped elder), and lead a herd to “crush those who threaten your survival” (hunt the hunter).

The new weapon is the Blood Shasti club, a “bloodstained club of bone and teeth once wielded by Ull, the vicious leader of the Udam” that can’t break or be destroyed by fire, while that resource pack includes “rare” resources and “unique” customizations, such changing what Takkar’s owl looks like and decorating his arms with Wenja tribal paint.

All of this DLC will be available with the Far Cry Primal Collector’s Edition which also comes with a range of physical goodies. These physical extras are the map of Oros, a Far Cry Primal collector box with a “sabretooth skull opening”, an official Wenja phrasebook (including words and sentences from the in-game language), a steelbook, and an official game soundtrack that features Wenja audio recordings in order for players “discover the basics of Far Cry Primal’s official language”.

Overall, the Collector’s Edition sounds appealing for diehard Far Cry fans, though some will be disappointed that it doesn’t include things like the Far Cry 3 Insane Edition bobblehead or the Pagan Min figurine/propaganda in the Far Cry 4 Ultimate Kyrat Edition. If the physical edition doesn’t seem appealing, though, there’s also the Far Cry Primal Digital Apex Edition, a digital version of Far Cry Primal that includes the standard version of the game along with all of the aforementioned digital content.

Far Cry Primal will be released on February 23, 2016 on PS4 and Xbox One and March 1, 2016 on PC.
