Modern Warfare Remastered Adds Classic Maps Next Week

Activision announces free DLC is coming very soon to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered including six remastered maps, two new game modes, and a holiday themed playlist.

So far, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered has proven to be a welcomed nostalgic trip down memory lane for many longtime fans, even if the content side of the game was a little more limited than what many remember from the original title. While the game only launched with a portion of its original multiplayer offering with 10 of the original 16 included maps, Raven Software is making it up to players with a free update, expanding the current map selection significantly.

Coming as part of a free update to all Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered players on December 13, six classic maps are making their way into the game. These new battlegrounds include Bloc, Countdown, Pipeline, Showdown, Strike, and Wet Work. A brand new trailer from the official Call of Duty channel shows these maps in action along with some other goodies.

New maps are not the only thing coming to players on December 13 as two new game modes are also being added. Gun Game is a free for all mode where each kill gives the player a new gun to use. The game ends once the final weapon in the chain is used. Hardpoint is the other mode being added and tasks each team with capturing and then defending a specific point against the enemy team. While these modes are commonly seen in other shooters, having more options is always welcomed.

Lastly, a holiday themed event called Winter Crash 24/7 is coming on December 20, essentially taking the map Crash and giving it a seasonal makeover. Instead of the usual look and feel, players will find festive lights, Christmas trees, and snow providing some added color to the once dusty looking map.

Interestingly enough, this free update does not appear to include the XM-LAR weapon which was heavily hinted at last month. Players initially discovered this weapon after tinkering around with some files behind the scenes, quickly realizing that the gun is fully functional with a working kill feed icon as well. Whether or not more DLC is planned down the road, fans will have to wait and see.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered remains a bundled exclusive for those who purchase either the Legacy, Digital Deluxe, or Legacy Pro editions for the main Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. While rumors persist regarding the game eventually being sold separately, for now, the fact remains that in order to even play the remastered title, fans will need to ensure their Infinite Warfare disk is inserted into the console or PC first.
