Horizon: Zero Dawn Release Date Pushed Forward in UK

In a surprise announcement, PlayStation UK reveals that the Horizon: Zero Dawn UK release date has moved up by a few days and is now launching on March 1, 2017.

Looking to capitalize on the recent sales momentum propelled large in part to the recent release of the PlayStation 4 Pro, Sony is preparing to have another strong year in 2017. Leading the charge for the company is Guerrilla Games’ newest IP, Horizon: Zero Dawn. The post-apocalyptic action adventure game revolves around Aloy, a nomadic hunter living in a world now overrun by robots. While the game was unfortunately delayed out of its late 2016 launch date, fans eagerly anticipating the now early 2017 title got a bit a good news today in regards to the release date.

In a surprise announcement, PlayStation UK revealed that the scheduled release date for Horizon: Zero Dawn on March 3 has actually been changed. Instead of the typical Friday release, players in the UK and Europe will be able to start hunting robo-dinosaurs a few days earlier on Wednesday, March 1. Traditionally, games in Europe and the UK tend to release a few days after North America on the following Friday.

At this time, Sony has not specifically stated why the change was made, but since it benefits consumers, it’s likely no one will be complaining about this move. While this is undoubtedly great news for fans in the UK, it does not affect North American players as the game is holding firm on its previously revealed February 28 launch date.

To help ease the longer than anticipated wait, fans got a wealth of new information on the open-world title, including a number of new trailers and details surrounding the story of the game. Players interested in learning more about the robots that inhabit the land were also given some insight into the types of animals and creatures that helped inspire many of the Guerrilla Games developers as well.

Bumping up release dates is not entirely uncommon and appears to be slowly gaining momentum in this generation of consoles. Fans have already seen certain titles like Dishonored 2 hit stores early for those who preordered before a certain date. Other games such as Microsoft exclusives Gears of War 4 and Forza Horizon 3 allowed gamers to start playing four days early for those who picked up the Ultimate Edition. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided also ran a similar pre-order program which received a lot of flak from fans, which led Square Enix to cancel it and roll all of the content into a special day one version of the game.

Horizon: Zero Dawn launches on February 28, 2017 (and March 1 in Europe and the UK) exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
