Death Stranding: Norman Reedus Named Adam, Says IMDB

According to an official listing on Death Stranding‘s IMDB page, Norman Reedus’ character in Kojima Productions’ forthcoming video game has the name of Adam.

Not too long ago, it was revealed that Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding project is set to enter “full swing” development in 2017, which means that the Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain director will soon have even more information to share with the world as the title’s production process officially begins. With this being the case, fans will likely be given developer sanctioned details about the release, such as the roles and names of the characters for the actors such as Mads Mikkelsen and Norman Reedus.

Speaking of the latter thespian, though, if a listing on IMDB is to be believed, then Norman Reedus’ character in the game already has his name set in stone as being Adam. So far, according to the online entertainment database’s page for Death Stranding, his is the only figure to have received a moniker, with Mads Mikkelsen and Guillermo del Toro’s characters still lacking official character titles.

When taking into account the trailer scenes in which Norman Reedus has been depicted thus far, the name Adam for his protagonist character is certainly apropos, especially when one bears in mind the fact that the name is packed with biblical allusions. For instance, just like the scriptural Adam, Reedus appears to be the only living human being in the environment – save for the baby attached to him through an artificial umbilical cord. However, instead of a flourishing Garden of Eden, he seems destitute on shores filled with dead sea life, while being watched by several supernatural entities in the sky.

Of course, considering the enigmatic nature inherent in most of Hideo Kojima’s work, Reedus’ character name being Adam could very well be an even more esoteric reference that the creator is making. Plus, with the Death Stranding director having already said that “the ‘game’ has already begun” when it comes to fans poring over the title’s press materials, the name Adam is surely intended to spark discussion. So, it’s really anyone’s guess at this point in time as to what the greater meaning behind the moniker could be.

While Norman Reedus’ character name could be the key to unlocking many of the puzzles currently surrounding Death Stranding, it’s also possible for the name to simply be a red herring. Should fans begin to get close to solving some of the mysteries, though, it’s safe to say that Kojima will eventually put forth promotional assets with even more secrets than the last.

Death Stranding is currently in pre-production for the PlayStation 4.
