State of Decay 2 News Coming at E3 2017

Undead Labs announces to fans that they can see more gameplay of State of Decay 2 at E3 2017 in June, as well as learn the game’s release date and platforms.

Microsoft’s E3 2016 press conference was defined by a slew of new game announcements, including State of Decay 2, the four-player co-op followup to the zombie survival game from Undead Labs. Fans of the first State of Decay have been waiting patiently for more news on the game since its E3 announcement, but as it turns out, they will have to wait for gaming’s biggest show to roll around again next year.

As announced by Undead Labs in a blog post, State of Decay 2 will be showcased at E3 2017 in June. According to Undead Labs founder Jeff Strain, the State of Decay 2 presentation at E3 2017 will be rather substantial, as fans will get another look at its gameplay, as well as learn the game’s release date and the systems it’s coming out for.

It’s interesting that Strain made it a point to say that fans will learn which systems they’ll be able to play State of Decay 2 on. After all, the game is being published by Microsoft, and it’s already been confirmed for PC and Xbox One. In fact, its Xbox Play Anywhere functionality, which allows players to own the game on both PC and Xbox One, was one of the main talking points from its appearance at E3 2016.

Considering this, it’s not likely that State of Decay 2 is coming to PS4, Nintendo Switch, or any other platform that Microsoft isn’t invested in. So, why would Undead Labs need to clarify what platforms State of Decay 2 is in development for? Well, as some may recall, Microsoft actually has a brand new home console releasing next holiday season in the form of Project Scorpio.

Project Scorpio, said to be the most powerful console ever when it releases next holiday season, will function like an upgraded Xbox One. There’s conflicting information available, but it seems like every Xbox One game will work with Scorpio, and some will have added benefits like improved resolution and load times. Presumably, this means fans will learn of State of Decay 2‘s bonus Scorpio benefits come E3 next summer.

For State of Decay fans, the wait to next year’s E3 and the chance to see more of State of Decay 2 will be a long one. But with the promise of learning the game’s release date and its possible Project Scorpio benefits, as well as getting a look at the four player co-op that was originally planned for the first game, hopefully the wait to see State of Decay 2 again will be worth it.

State of Decay 2 will be available in 2017 for PC and Xbox One.
