Terry Crews Again Teases Role as Overwatch's Doomfist

Terry Crews is back on Facebook after his recent visit to Overwatch developer Blizzard, asking his followers whether they’d like to see him voice Doomfist.

Terry Crews’ ongoing campaign to voice an as-yet unannounced playable Overwatch character by the name of Doomfist resulted in several social media posts today. The popular action and comedy actor reinvigorated the discussion by asking his followers, “Who wants to hear me do the voice of Doomfist for real??” both on Facebook and Twitter. His fans, obviously, reacted in the positive and with extreme exuberance. It’s all in Blizzard’s hands now.

The social media posts were each attached to article referencing Crews’ recent visit to the Blizzard studio three weeks ago. Speculation has run rampant regarding whether or not there was more to the visit than just a tour, but thus far nothing has been revealed. Could Crews have been meeting with the Overwatch production team to discuss whether or not he’d fit with the character of Doomfist? Crews has remained mum on the topic ever since.

In all likelihood this social media post from Crews’ accounts doesn’t have any bigger meaning. That is, it’s no use in discerning whether or not Crews has been hired for the role of Doomfist. It’s unlikely Crews fully runs his own social media, as his accounts are populated with new content daily and often self-market like with today’s Overwatch post. That isn’t to say that Crews definitely won’t get the role — he did visit Blizzard after all – but otherwise it’s all speculation until the studio officially confirms Doomfist.

For those unfamiliar, Doomfist is one of the most likely candidates to be released as Overwatch‘s next playable character. His name is featured prominently on the Numbani map on several signs, and the objective of the map is to escort Doomfist’s glove to the museum that’s holding an event focusing on him. The signs feature a mysterious figure as the modern iteration of Doomfist, implying the character will make a reappearance in the future. Outside of Winston’s AI, Athena, Doomfist is most likely to appear in 2017.

Whether Crews would fit the role of Doomfist is another question entirely. Crews has voicework experience, an increasing part of his career since his role in 2013’s Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. However, since we know so little about Doomfist it’s difficult to say. Some speculate Doomfist might be an Omnic, while others say he’s a significant member of Talon, which also counts Reaper and Widowmaker as members. While Crews could likely fit any role, the question is whether Blizzard might have a more specific voice in mind – if the character is even that far in development.

In the end, it’s fun to think about Terry Crews’ voice in Overwatch and that’s really all that matters. If he doesn’t get the role, or Blizzard decides to focus on other Overwatch characters, then the fans can still have their fun imagining him as a playable character.

Overwatch is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
