Cancelled Disney Infinity Star Wars Rogue One Figures

Cancelled Disney Infinity Star Wars Rogue One Figures

A former Disney Infinity character artist known as B Allen posts images of many upcoming figures based on current Disney franchises, including Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

It has been about eight months since Disney decided to shut down its popular toys to life video game series, Disney Infinity. Since that point in time, many new and upcoming figures and rumors have surfaced, teasing longtime fans about what could have been including figures based on upcoming films like Doctor Strange and even Star Wars: The Force Awakens. With the current Rogue One: A Star Wars Story performing well in theaters, more figures have surfaced showing a future that will never come.

Before its untimely cancellation last May, Disney had a number of figures in production for its many upcoming movies like Moana, Zootopia, and the previously mentioned Rogue One. A Disney Infinity artist known as B Allen recently shared pictures of some of these figures – including Baze Malbus, Moana and Maui, and newer variations of Captain America and Darth Vader. The figures appear to be in a nearly complete state, similar to what fans have seen before in other leaked photos of Jafar, Spider Gwen, and Peter Pan.

According to reports, an entire line of Rogue One figures were planned probably to be released alongside of the major motion picture. In addition to main character Jyn Erso, K-2SO, and the other members of the rebel crew had figures planned out along side of an official Rogue One playset. Heavenly Sword and DmC: Devil May Cry developer, Ninja Theory, was again called upon to create this in-game campaign similar to what it did for the other Star Wars playsets. Rumors indicate that the playset was very early on in development when news came of the game’s cancellation, but the figures were practically finished.

Though it remains unconfirmed, Disney Infinity’s downfall has been rumored to have been a result more of financial and production mismanagement than with the game itself. Whatever the actual cause, the cancellation also brought down lead developer Avalanche Software, costing 300 people their jobs.

Based on all of these recent leaks and the former release schedule of this franchise, it’s clear that a Disney Infinity 4.0 would have been coming sometime in 2017. Former employees revealed a major campaign that would have brought all of these figures together into one massive plot line. In addition, the plan was to evolve the franchise into more of a platform without a foreseeable end by continually introducing playsets from upcoming films like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Cars 3, and additional Disney brands.
