Fans Attempt to Remake Tomb Raider 4 in HD

Fans of Core Design’s 1999 title Tomb Raider 4: The Last Revelation are attempting to remake the game in high definition, and have already made impressive progress.

It has been just over 17 years since the smash hit action-adventure game Tomb Raider 4: The Last Revelation was released by Core Design and Eidos Interactive on Halloween in 1999. The fourth installment in the well-loved Tomb Raider video game series, Tomb Raider 4, follows everyone’s favorite archeologist/adventurer Lara Croft, now aged 31, through ancient Egyptian ruins in search of rare artifacts – and in efforts to prevent Armageddon. While the story and heart of the game have held up over time, the graphics and gameplay have not.

Enter the modder group “Raiding the Globe.” This band of mega Tomb Raider fans are endeavoring to remake Tomb Raider 4: The Last Revelation in high definition. The attempt to modernize Tomb Raider was spurred by the lack of any official remasters of the game, and so these ambitious and talented fans took it upon themselves to head up the overhaul project.

Over on their website, Raiding the Globe officially announced the remastering project. The modder group also dropped few hints at what Tomb Raider 4: The Last Revelation HD will have in store for future players.

Tomb Raider 4: The Last Revelation HD allows players to experience Core Design’s original and unparalleled classic game remastered with sharper textures, higher quality objects, brand new effects (such as dynamic fogs, smoother shadows and high quality sprites), additional gameplay features and much more,” Raiding the Globe mentioned in their official statement.

While the project is still in the early stages of development, Raiding the Globe offered up a look at what fans can expect from the high definition remake of Tomb Raider 4. The graphics definitely look a lot sharper, more in line with high-quality visuals players have become accustomed to in modern-day titles.

With the recent Square Enix-led reboot of the Tomb Raider series offering players a brand-new Lara Croft, shifting focus to old-school titles in the series might be a smart move. Despite the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot breaking records to become the best-selling game in the franchise and it inspiring a Tomb Raider film, some fans still found contention with the new focus away from the original Lara Croft, though they still enjoyed the updated graphics and gameplay. Raiding the Globe attempting to remake Tomb Raider 4: The Last Revelation in HD might be just what fans new and old need.

Tomb Raider 4: The Last Revelation was released on October 31, 1999. It is available on original PlayStation and Dreamcast consoles, as well as on Microsoft Windows and Macintosh operating systems.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is the latest installment in the Tomb Raider video game series. It has been available on Xbox 360 and Xbox One since November 2015, on Microsoft Windows operating systems since January 2016, and on PlayStation 4 since October 2016.
