Horizon: Zero Dawn Gameplay Highlights Settlements

A direct capture of Horizon: Zero Dawn‘s gameplay from a preview event in Amsterdam surfaces online, showing off a new look at dynamic combat, human settlements, and more.

With about two more weeks to go before the release of the PlayStation 4 exclusive, Horizon: Zero Dawn, it’s safe to say that the eager excitement leading up to the launch for one of the most highly anticipated video games of 2017 is close to reaching a fever pitch. With this being the case, fans can fortunately tide themselves over until Guerrilla Games’ action-adventure title goes live at the end of this month with some fresh footage that has surfaced online featuring Horizon: Zero Dawn‘s combat, human settlements, exploration elements, and more.

As seen below in the video courtesy of Game Clips and Tips, Horizon: Zero Dawn fans are given a block of nearly seven somewhat unedited minutes from a direct capture of the title’s gameplay during a preview event at Guerrilla Games’ headquarters in Amsterdam. To be specific, the segment of gameplay offers up looks at a lot of different dynamic combat encounters, a new glimpse of one of the human settlements called Mother’s Cradle located within the title’s full open world map, as well as scaling for one of the giant robo-dinosaurs that was originally seen within the game’s debut footage at E3 2015.

As far as the never-before-seen aspects of the above trailer are concerned – that is, the human outpost found a little after the two minute marker – it seems as if Guerrilla Games has taken great care to ensure that Horizon: Zero Dawn is populated with realistic living and breathing communities, for as the protagonist Aloy wanders among the villagers, they often share snippets of speech, take part in chores that need to be done, or simply frolic around in merriment like people are wont to do. Not to mention, it shows the balance between the world of Horizon: Zero Dawn‘s delicate tightrope walk in between the display of both futuristic technology and of the primitive wilderness.

Of course, this is far from the first instance of in-game footage cropping up for Horizon: Zero Dawn, as Guerrilla Games have put out a plethora of gameplay segments involving the title’s combat, like with the trailers focusing on the Thunderjaw and Snapmaw – two of the game’s deadly dinosaur-robot hybrids. Not to mention, the studio has provided fans with a decent idea of what Horizon: Zero Dawn‘s plot will consist of, as the developer released a cinematic story trailer about a month ago.

Bearing all of this in mind, it seems as if Guerrilla Games is primed to give folks a unique, yet familiar experience with Horizon: Zero Dawn, for while the title’s distinctive blend of pastoral majesty, tribal living, and technological marvels projects a singular style all its own, its foundation in action-RPG gameplay should help fans find their footing quickly. Luckily enough, we won’t have to wait much longer to see if Guerrilla Games has a hit on its hands with Horizon: Zero Dawn.

Horizon: Zero Dawn is set to launch on February 28, 2017 for PlayStation 4.
