The new update for Pokemon GO has officially landed, bringing with it a bevy of brand new monsters that originally debuted in Pokemon Gold and Silver. While fans that had left the mobile title may find themselves reopening the app in a bid to keep growing their collection of Pokes, two of the most desirable creatures that have joined the game in the wake of the big Johto update are none other than a pair of new evolutions for the beloved Eevee. Of course, these beasts are Espeon and Umbreon.
These particular Psychic and Dark-types, respectively, are some of the most popular Pokemon currently found in the core games, so their arrival in Pokemon GO is understandably an anticipated one. Fortunately, it appears that adding these two to the updated Pokedex isn’t all that challenging – especially for those that took advantage of the Eevee naming technique to get Flareon, Jolteon, and Vaporeon.
Without any further ado, let’s begin!
By simply clicking on an already captured Eevee (and ensuring that users have the 25 candies required to evolve the creature), players can then edit its name. Once able, simply change the monicker to one of the following to secure either Umbreon or Espeon:
Sakura = Espeon
Tamao = Umbreon
Restarting the game will ensure that the name that’s been applied to the Eevee will save to Pokemon GO and its servers. It may not always be a necessary step for Trainers, but it’s a safer bet than jumping into an evolution cinematic at the risk of wasting all of those hard-earned candies.
Upon rebooting the Pokemon GO app, wannabe Pokemon Masters need only make their Eevee evolve to claim their prizes. This technique has provided Game Rant with a 100% success rate for both Espeon and Umbreon, with many others claiming that the technique has worked for them on Reddit.
Taking the all of the above information into consideration, it’s very important note that neither Niantic or The Pokemon Company have confirmed that this technique works – although there’s little denying that it has provided expected results for many users so far.
Still, be sure to let us know if this Eevee evolution tactic works for you!
