Mass Effect: Andromeda Lets Players Choose Armor Color

Mass Effect: Andromeda Lead Designer Ian Frazier confirms that players will be able to customize their armor colors, and can even do the same for their casual outfits.

With the release of Mass Effect: Andromeda a little over a month away, fans are excited to jump into combat once again with familiar species and new ones alike. Players will don the role of one of the Ryder twins, and in a throwback to earlier Mass Effect titles, it is now confirmed that players will once again be able to fully customize the protagonist’s armor color. The original titles of the Shepard trilogy allowed for different sets of armor to be worn, and gamers who wanted to switch between hot pink or midnight blue were able to do so in the latter titles – a tradition that BioWare is evidently keen to continue.

The confirmation come straight from Mass Effect: Andromeda‘s Lead Designer, Ian Frazier, who recently revealed what difficulty modes were available in for the upcoming space-based RPG. Today, the Montreal-based designer was responding to a fan who inquired if customizable armor colors would be making a comeback in Andromeda, and Ian even went a step further in his answer and also confirmed that Ryder’s casual clothing would have the same level of color customization options as well:

Those who are eager to see Ryder rock a neon green jumpsuit can now rest easy, and can focus on the new weapons and skills that will come into play with Andromeda. Frazier didn’t answer the torrent of follow-up questions all asking if players would be able to customize their squadmate’s armor colors as well, though such an aspect can’t be ruled out at this point. The game will feature several companions from familiar species like the Turians (and yes, most of them are capable of romance), though the Pathfinder’s quest to stake a new home for the trilogy’s species will lead Ryder to encounter new – and dangerous – species as well.

BioWare has been working on Mass Effect: Andromeda for several years now, with the title having been fully unveiled at E3 2015. Andromeda avoids the complexities of picking up where the Shepard trilogy left off by sending gamers to a new setting via the Andromeda galaxy, where the remnants of the exploration squad aim to find a new home to settle down on. Unfortunately, the indigenous species of the Andromeda galaxy won’t all be a welcoming presence, as players – in whatever color armor they don – will surely find out when the game releases late next month.

What do you think about the ability to customize armor colors, Ranters? Is this something you ever spend time adjusting during a Mass Effect playthrough, or are the default options typically good enough?

Mass Effect: Andromeda will launch on March 21, 2017 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
