Mass Effect: Andromeda Multiplayer Tech Test Canceled

Mass Effect: Andromeda Multiplayer Tech Test Canceled

Hopeful fans will no longer be able to beta test Mass Effect: Andromeda‘s multiplayer mode, after BioWare today announced the cancellation of the technical test. Players have been registering for the Mass Effect: Andromeda technical test via the game’s official website for some time now, however those registrations will now be scrapped. News of the cancellation came as part of BioWare’s PAX East reveals.

The good news is that, while BioWare no longer has any plans for a wide-spread online public test, it will be letting the public play Mass Effect: Andromeda‘s multiplayer — in a live setting. BioWare will be setting up 12 PCs running Mass Effect: Andromeda multiplayer from 10am to 10pm for the duration of PAX East. Multiplayer will also be playable at the Microsoft booth for Xbox One players. For PAX East attendees, make sure to hunt down the “BioWare Base” in room 2AB.

While details regarding Mass Effect: Andromeda‘s multiplayer are scant, it is confirmed that the multiplayer will be cooperative in nature. Whether that means it’ll be a wave-based survival mode similar to Mass Effect 3‘s multiplayer or more of a dungeon crawl like Dragon Age: Inquisition‘s multiplayer is unclear. All that’s confirmed is that Mass Effect: Andromeda‘s multiplayer will tie into the single-player narrative, in an indirect manner.

BioWare will be doing a few other things at PAX East with Mass Effect: Andromeda, too. The “Andromeda Initiative Recruitment Center” will let attendees take the RD Nomad remote control car bundled in a fancy collector’s edition out for a spin. Also, developers will be on hand at the Logitech G Lounge hanging out, shaking hands, and answering questions.

Friday, the first day of PAX East, will be Mass Effect: Andromeda‘s spotlight night. Starting at 2pm, BioWare will be hosting two livestreams featuring Mass Effect: Andromeda content. The first is rather ambiguous, said to feature “new gameplay” but without specificity.

The second will start at 4pm and will feature key members of the Mass Effect: Andromeda creative team as they do a panel featuring “never-before-seen gameplay.” Both streams will be available on Twitch, with the panel highlighted on the PAX twitch channel.

Mass Effect: Andromeda is planned for release on March 21 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
