In collaboration with the Disney-owned Maker Studios, Felix Kjellberg, perhaps better known as PewDiePie, is joining together with fellow YouTube personalities to launch the entertainment network known as Revelmode. According to the description on its YouTube page, the new company will focus on the production of original series, animations, as well as other web-related content, and aims to expand into music, fashion, philanthropy, and even video game development.
As of now, PewDiePie heads Revelmode’s “talent squad” of Dodger, EmmaBlackery, Jelly, Kwebbelkop, and Markiplier, in addition to former collaborators on his debut mobile video game Legend of the Brofist — that is, Cutiepiemarzia, Jacksepticeye and Cinnamon Toast Ken, who all did voice work for the release. The prosperous Maker Studios and the already reasonably wealthy PewDiePie — his $7.45 million in YouTube earnings for 2014 is no measly figure — intend on expanding the roster to generate more content and revenue, with both entities curating future members for the network.
Revelmode has already begun reaching its tendrils out into the Internet ether, with a dedicated website, a YouTube Channel, Facebook page, Twitter account, and even an Instagram. However, no official content exists for any of the platforms as of yet, so it seems as if the network is working off of the Field of Dreams ethos, “If you build it, [they] will come.” At any rate, folks can check out Revelmode’s official premiere trailer below.
At this point in time, it’s hard to say exactly what Revelmode’s forte is or who its main audience will be, as there’s not much to go on other than the announcement of its impending existence and the team supporting it. Nevertheless, the fact that PewDiePie is attached will definitely garner the network a lot of attention since he’s already a veritable star within his own right.
Speaking of which, PewDiePie’s popularity has led him to receive his own digital series on YouTube Red, which is the premium version of the user-based video service. As it happens, plenty of people were interested in the program, for simply the announcement of the show, Scare PewDiePie, has nearly 4 million views as of writing. Plus, PewDiePie’s obviously become the face of YouTube celebrity, for not only does he have the number one channel on the site, but he has also been touted as the ambassador of Let’s Plays, and visited The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to explain the format.
Of course, whether or not PewDiePie’s new venture with Revelmode will succeed in the long run is anyone’s guess, but its establishment is further evidence of the drastic shift from traditional television-watching to viewing content online. Taking this into consideration, we’ll most likely hear about more networks similar to Revelmode being formed in the near-future.
PewDiePie’s Revelmode network is currently without an exact launch date.
