As rumors pertaining to Nintendo’s NX console start to amass, a new report has come in from a pair of reliable whistleblowers that the Big N is well into development on a brand new Paper Mario title for its Wii U platform. According to the report, Intelligent Systems is said to once again be the studio behind the next franchise installment, and the game should be announced and shown off at some point this year.
Emily Rogers and Liam Robertson are the two that have allegedly gathered this information from five unnamed sources, but it should be taken with a grain of salt. That said, both have provided gamers with plenty of other details in the past, with Robertson in particular relaying accurate information on unannounced games like the once Wii U exclusive Zombi U arriving on Xbox One and PS4. As a result, the Paper Mario info gathered and confirmed by the duo seems like it could have some genuine validity.
Apparently Rogers and Robertson both have more details on the title, but they’ve opted to withhold that information for the time being – likely in a bid to gather the alleged details and make something a little more formal of it. Still, Rogers did confirm that the game is in the midst of localization and testing, which could mean that gamers can expect a reveal sooner rather than later.
The game is currently being localized and tested.

Fans may recall that the paper-thin protagonist recently appeared in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, but that was far from a legitimate entry for the Paper Mario IP – although our review noted that that wasn’t a bad thing. Some may be weary of the premise of a new title following the lacklustre Paper Mario: Sticker Star, but it should make for an interesting romp if Intelligent Systems simply goes back to basics with the tried and true paper RPG. Outside of that, however, there’s not much else of the rumor for fans to sink their teeth into.
It is interesting to note that the game is said to be arriving for the Wii U rather than Nintendo’s NX console, especially since mass production is said to kick off at the end of Q1 2016. All this seems to do, however, is give credence to reports that the handheld portion of the system will hit retailers at the end of this year, with the NX home hardware arriving at some point in 2017 instead.
