ARK Update Adds Grappling Hook and Terror Bird

ARK Update Adds Grappling Hook and Terror Bird

Studio Wildcard announces a new content update for ARK: Survival Evolved that adds a new creature called the Terror Bird as well as a grappling hook tool.

At some point today, those that own the PC version of ARK: Survival Evolved will be in for a treat. Studio Wildcard has released a trailer hyping today’s Version 235 update, which will be adding significant new content to the game, including a brand new creature as well as an exciting tool: the grappling hook.

First off, the new creature that PC gamers can look forward to taming later today is the Phorusrhacidae Rapidesultor, also known as the Terror Bird. The Terror Bird is small compared to many of the other prehistoric creatures that roam ARK: Survival Evolved, but it is fast, which, according to Studio Wildcard, makes it an excellent choice for a combat mount.

Besides the Terror Bird, PC ARK players will also have the grappling hook at their disposal starting today. The grappling hook is a multi-purpose tool in ARK, allowing players to scale mountains and large structures, in addition to hitching rides on unsuspecting dinosaurs. It’s even possible to snag other players with the grappling hook and drag them around, which should have plenty of hilarious results.

While it’s not touched on in the trailer, the Version 235 update is also upgrading the game’s fishing mechanics, as well as finally adding the Tribe Alliances feature. The latter has been often-requested by the ARK community, and it allows smaller tribes to band together to stand a better chance against the larger tribes in the game.

As previously stated, all of this content will be rolling out to those that own the PC version of ARK today. That being said, it’s no secret that ARK on Xbox One is more popular than the PC version, so one would expect this content to also land on Xbox soon. However, it’s unknown at this point if it will be added in ARK‘s February 10th split-screen update, or if Xbox gamers will have to wait longer for the grappling hook and Terror Bird.

In any case, Studio Wildcard continues to impress with each new update that is announced for ARK. The game is receiving significant new features and content on a regular basis, with a three-seat dinosaur and riot gear armor added just last week. With plenty of time left until the game’s planned full release this summer, expect ARK: Survival Evolved to become even more impressive as the months go on.

ARK: Survival Evolved has its full release scheduled for this June on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
