Dishonored Comic & Novels Will Set Up Sequel

Bethesda announces a partnership with the Titan Publishing Group for a comic and novel series to tell additional stories and set up the events leading to Dishonored 2.

With Bethesda opting to put on another E3 event this year, most people are speculating that Dishonored 2 will be a featured game, showing off ample amounts of gameplay. After being somewhat spoiled prior to last year’s show, the game has been relatively under the radar, leading many to wonder how its two protagonists, Corvo Attano and Emily Kaldwin got to where they are in this sequel. Thankfully, Bethesda is planning to fill in the gaps thanks to a recently announced partnership with comics and novel publisher Titan Entertainment Group.

In a post on Bethesda.net, the company announced a series of novels and comics set in the world of Dishonored arriving in August. Set to take place 12 years after the events of the first game, Titan Comics and Books will publish the two mini-series which aim to bridge the gap between the 2012 stealth action game, and the upcoming sequel.

Dishonored Comic

The four part comic run follows Corvo as he searches the Empire of the Isles for an apprentice. Written by Gordon Rennie (White Trash and 2000 AD), the comics also feature illustrations and color from Andrea Olimpieri and Marcelo Maiolo (Batman Beyond and Old Man Logan). The first issue is set for release on August 4 and run until October 19, 2016 with a graphic novel release capturing everything all in one place on November 29, 2016.

A three part novel series called Dishonored – The Corroded Man, arrives in September and will focus on telling the back story of how both Corvo and Emily ended up where they are prior to the events in Dishonored 2. Two additional books focused on the protagonists are scheduled for release sometime in 2017.

Dishonored 2 isn’t the only game that turned to other types of media to help fill in some backstory and lore. The recently released shooter, Overwatch, has released a number of digital comics and really impressive short animations, that are tied to specific characters. These give Blizzard the ability to fill the player in to who these characters are and why they’re fighting the way they are, something which isn’t explained in great detail within the game itself.

Do you like when companies turn to other types of media to further expand lore? Are you interested in finding out more about the world of Dishonored through other types of media or are you planning to just stick to the games? Sound off in the comments.

Dishonored 2 arrives on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on November 11, 2016.
