For Honor: Collector's Edition, Modes, and PC Port Details

For Honor is still months away from release, but today Ubisoft is revealing a ton of details; including closed alpha dates, multiplayer modes, and collector’s edition contents.

Crossing vikings, knights, and samurais may sound like a sure-fire formula for success, but despite For Honor’s initial hype, the detailed gameplay demo at E3 didn’t blow the crowd away. Regardless, the February 2017 release date is slowly approaching, so Ubisoft are parading the game around at Gamescom and some interesting details have been confirmed about For Honor’s PC port, the collector’s edition, and the multiple game modes.

PC players knew that the game would be coming to home computers in 2017, but specifics about the port had been few and far between. Today Ubisoft confirmed that the PC version is being handled by German developer Blue Byte. The fully optimized PC version will offer keyboard and mouse support, so non-console gamers will have the option of melee battling to the death with the traditional controller or transitioning to mouse and keyboard.

In addition to the new information about the PC version, Ubisoft also offered more insight into For Honor’s five multiplayer modes, which can be played against AI or other players. The game’s single-player mode is the more exciting feature for many gamers, but a well built multiplayer experience is a nice bonus. The following descriptions were provided, according to Polygon

Dominion is a 4v4 objective-based mode in which two teams of four players fight for control of the battlefield. It’s a mode that relies upon skill, communication and teamwork.

Brawl 2v2: Each team of two players need to kill the two enemy Heroes to win a round. Skill, awareness, cooperation and the capacity to use the environment to the player’s advantage are key components.

Duel 1v1 puts two Heroes face-to-face in a fight to the death. Skill is fundamental in Duel of course, but as in Brawl, players have the possibility to use the environment to their advantage.

Skirmish is a 4v4 Team Death Match like mode. Combat skills are key in this mode as players score points for their team by killing enemy Heroes.

Elimination In this 4v4 mode, the last surviving player on the battlefield wins the round for their team.

It sounds like For Honor will offer a solid variety of multiplayer gameplay options, so it will be interesting to see if the bots are smart enough to make the modes fun without other live players. Throwing down against friends in local split-screen multiplayer is sure to be a good time, but the real test will be how fun the game is when played solo.

While For Honor was in the spotlight, Ubisoft also offered a closer look at the collector’s edition, which will only be available for purchase through the online Uplay store…

Players who are already sold on For Honor, or who might want a chance to get a closer look before finalizing their opinions, can sign up for the game’s closed alpha playtest at www.forhonorgame.com. The playtest takes place from September 15-18 and Ubisoft has not confirmed how many volunteers will be selected to participate. For Honor is still many months away, so it’s encouraging to see Ubisoft starting the testing and accepting feedback from the community in the months leading up to the game. Although the E3 gameplay footage was overshadowed by some other heavy hitters, February usually isn’t full of exciting releases, so For Honor still stands a chance to dominate the late winter gaming season.

Will you be signing up for the closed alpha or pre-ordering the collector’s edition? Let us know in the comments.

For Honor will release February 14, 2017 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
