Uncharted 4 Free Update Adds New Map and Other Changes

Video game developer Naughty Dog officially releases a free update for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, which adds a brand new multiplayer map and much more.

Following the release of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End‘s first multiplayer pack known as Lost Treasures a couple of months ago, Naughty Dog has been listening to player feedback and has just recently introduced lots of new content for the online mode with the action-adventure game’s latest patch. While a bevy of changes and materials have been brought about with the latest update for Uncharted 4, perhaps the most exciting piece of DLC is the title’s fresh map called New Devon.

As seen in the trailer below, Uncharted 4‘s most recently introduced area for multiplayer takes its design cues and layout from the New Devon chapter of the game’s campaign, which is set in the ruins of a lost pirate colony. As far as its size goes, the map can be placed among the largest that Naughty Dog has ever created for the title, as it includes lots of spots for snipers to use long sight-lines, as well as a series of corridors for melee and close-quarters combat.

Of course, New Devon comes to Uncharted 4 with the 1.12 patch, which not only includes the map, but also makes changes, improvements, and fixes. For instance, players will now be able to acquire relics through the completion and winning of matches, while they previously had to finish challenges to collect them. Furthermore, Naughty Dog has added DLC skins and pre-set outfits to vanity chests, giving fans the chance to unlock premium vanity items at a lower relic cost. Those interested in the full patch notes can find them on the studio’s website right here.

Uncharted 4‘s 1.12 update also brings about a new set of rewards for Ranked Season 2, and makes changes to the game’s ranked team deathmatch playlist. Plus, there are new ranks added for the Ranked Season 2, with Master Bandanas being the highest. Individual performance is being focused on more this time around, as the amount of bonus points players earn is based on how well one did in a match compared to their average rank.

While New Devon will temporarily sate Uncharted 4‘s multiplayer fans, the majority of player feedback about the online mode has centered around the desire for additional maps to be incorporated into the game. Thankfully, as explained in a PlayStation Blog post written by Naughty Dog’s Scott Lowe, the studio is planning to use the month of September to release a “new DLC update, which will add a new map, game-type, personalization items, and more.” Unfortunately, though, the developer has yet to announce any news regarding the title’s single-player DLC.

Later on this fall, however, Naughty Dog will include a new co-op mode and much more as seen in the studio’s road map above for the action-adventure title. Not to mention, there will be plenty of additional in-game materials being released well into the next year.

With many fans considering Uncharted 4 to be one of the top games of 2016 so far, Naughty Dog’s decision to keep the game flush with content is undoubtedly a great way to not only keep current players engaged, but also to attract new fans to the game in order to build even further upon its sizeable first week sales of more than 2.7 million units.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is out now exclusively for PlayStation 4.
