Rumor: Modern Warfare Remastered to be Sold Separately

While speaking about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, Raven director David Pellas inadvertently reveals the game may be available solo sometime in the future.

As expected, this year will see another new Call of Duty game, this time venturing even further into the sci-fi future of warfare. And while there are undoubtedly many millions of gamers excited for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, there seems to be just as many other gamers more excited for Infinite Warfare’s companion game, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered.

When Activision first announced that Modern Warfare Remastered would be coming out alongside Infinite Warfare, gamers were ecstatic. That excitement diminished a bit, though, when Activision followed up by telling gamers the only way to get Modern Warfare Remastered was to purchase Infinite Warfare. However, thanks to a recent statement from Raven director David Pellas, there may be plans in the words to release Modern Warfare Remastered as a stand-alone title.

In a recent interview, Pellas revealed that Modern Warfare Remastered would be receiving all 16 original maps, but in his statement he may have spilled the beans about a releasing the game solo. Pellas said:

What we announced before today was that we were going to offer 10 maps on launch, and that’s still true. The announcement today is that the six remaining maps we are actually going to be delivering to anyone who purchases Modern Warfare Remastered, anyone who owns it or a version of Infinite Warfare that comes with it, they’re going to get all 16 of the maps for no additional cost.

That honestly doesn’t sound like something gamers simply misheard. Rather, Pellas made a specific distinction between those who will own Modern Warfare Remastered as a result of purchasing Infinite Warfare, and those who will purchase it on its own.

Granted, the statement could have been a slip of the tongue, with Pellas simply trying to emphasize that the way gamers get Modern Warfare Remastered is by purchasing Infinite Warfare, but many who have read the statement see a clear distinction.

Hopefully, Activision will decide to offer Modern Warfare Remastered as a stand-alone purchase, though if the developer does so, it’ll likely be at a later date, once Infinite Warfare sales taper off. However, until Activision officially announces a Modern Warfare Remastered solo purchase, the only way to grab the game will be to pick up Infinite Warfare. And judging by the latest trailer, those who do so will be in for a wild ride.

What do you think about Pellas’s statement concerning Modern Warfare Remastered? Do you think Activision will sell the game by itself at some point?

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare are set to release November 4, 2016 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
