Resident Evil: Vendetta Film Gets First Trailer

Resident Evil: Vendetta Film Gets First Trailer

Video game developer and publisher Capcom officially releases the first trailer for its forthcoming fully computer generated movie known as Resident Evil: Vendetta.

Last week, at Tokyo Game Show 2016, Capcom unveiled information about its upcoming Resident Evil CG film with flourishes from the first game. Now, following its recent reveal of details and screenshots for the movie at TGS 2016, the company has decided to put out the first trailer for the 2017 theatrical release.

As seen in the trailer for Resident Evil: Vendetta below, not much is unearthed in terms of the actual thrust behind its plot, but long-time fans of the franchise can at least take solace in the fact that it will contain plenty of zombies. Plus, even though Resident Evil 7 won’t feature Leon S. Kennedy in any capacity, it’s interesting to find out that the Resident Evil 2 protagonist will share a narrative in Vendetta with franchise veterans Chris Redfield and Rebecca Chambers, the latter of whom is absent in the trailer.

For those unaware, Resident Evil: Vendetta was announced as an computer animated film in 2015 and is currently due to release in cinemas sometime during the spring of 2017. However, there’s no word from Capcom as to whether or not it will go on to receive an international box office release, for the movie is only slated for Japanese theaters at the moment.

Resident Evil: Vendetta is written by novelist and manga script writer Makoto Fukami and is directed by Takanori Tsujimoto who was also at the helm of such film as Hard Revenge, Milly and Ultraman X. Furthermore, The Grudge creator Takashi Shimizu is the project’s executive producer, while long-time Resident Evil developer Hiroyuki Kobayashi will be taking on the role of Vendetta‘s executive supervisor. With Kobayashi having also worked as producer on the first two animated Resident Evil movies, Degeneration and Damnation, fans ought to expect his knowledge of the franchise to serve the upcoming film well.

Not only will 2017 see the release of Resident Evil: Vendetta, but also the series’ live-action film finale starring Milla Jovovich known as The Final Chapter is set to make its appearance on the silver screen during January of next year, which is the same launch month of Resident Evil 7. With that being the case, since practically every movie theater has incorporated advertising for products beyond motion pictures prior to a showing — video games included — fans should expect to see an official trailer for RE 7 play before The Final Chapter.

Taking all of this into consideration, it seems as if Capcom is pulling out all of the stops when it comes to creating and promoting its Resident Evil properties, which makes sense due to 2016 being the 20th anniversary of the franchise. However, one game that the studio has been relatively quiet about since its confirmation is the full remake of Resident Evil 2. Hopefully, once Capcom gets closer to completing seventh iteration in the franchise, fans will be given a closer look at the remake’s status in the development process.

Resident Evil: Vendetta is set for a theatrical release in Japan sometime in the spring of 2017.
