Beyond Good and Evil 2 Teaser Images Continue

Beyond Good and Evil series creator Michel Ancel posts a teaser image of a muscular shark person on Instagram, possibly teasing Beyond Good and Evil 2.

Ever since Ubisoft released a teaser trailer for the game, fans have been waiting for years to see something concrete on Beyond Good & Evil 2. With series creator Michel Ancel busy with other projects, the game has slipped into development hell, despite Ubisoft’s insistence that it’s still coming. A couple of days ago, fans were treated to concept art for the long-gestating game, and today, Ancel has released yet another piece of concept art for what is presumably Beyond Good & Evil 2.

The concept art from the other day featured a young Pey’j with a character that many have assumed is Jade’s father. The new concept art, shared by Ancel on his Instagram account, is a 3D model of a shark person, perhaps hinting that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is well beyond the sketch phase. It’s possible that this shark is Francis or Rufus from the original Beyond Good & Evil, who worked at the Akuda Bar during the events of that game. However, if Beyond Good & Evil 2 is a prequel as rumored, then it could be a new shark person entirely.

The caption under this shark’s picture reads “Ready for the fight.” While the phrase could be a nod to the plot of Beyond Good & Evil 2, it also works in the real world, as Ubisoft is currently fighting for its independence against a hostile takeover attempt by Vivendi. It’s possible that Ancel is worried that if Vivendi takes over, Beyond Good & Evil 2 will be cancelled, and so he is trying to draw support by finally showing proof that the game is making progress of some kind.

Alternatively, Ancel’s reveal of the Beyond Good & Evil 2 concept art images could just coincidentally be happening at the same time as Vivendi’s takeover. After all, there are rumors that Beyond Good & Evil 2 will be a Nintendo NX exclusive, and Nintendo is expected to reveal the NX within the next few weeks. Maybe Beyond Good & Evil 2 will have a proper unveiling whenever Nintendo decides to divulge the first concrete details on its new system, and Ancel is building anticipation for that moment.

Even if Beyond Good & Evil 2 isn’t exclusive to Nintendo NX, we know that Ubisoft is at least still interested in reviving the franchise. The trademark for the game was renewed by the company earlier this year, and it always confirms that the game is still in development when asked. With the release of these concept art images over the last few days, it appears as though the game’s development may finally be ramping up, so here’s hoping it can hit store shelves before any kind of hostile takeover by Vivendi occurs.

Beyond Good & Evil 2 is reportedly in development for unspecified platforms.
