PlayStation VR Launch Line-Up

Sony is releasing the full list of PlayStation VR launch titles, including both PS VR exclusive games and PS VR compatible games like 100ft Robot Golf.
Many PlayStation 4 owners are anxiously awaiting the launch of PlayStation VR on October 13. A large amount of games will be launching that day, many exclusive to PlayStation VR but many simply compatible with VR too. To help everyone adequately prepare, Sony has released the full list of launch day titles for PlayStation VR as well as details explaining what’s VR exclusive and what’s available for non-VR PS4 owners. With more than 30 games and apps launching on October 13, there should be something for everybody.
Starting with the VR-exclusive titles available on October 13, there’s over 20 to pick from, all of which are titles that must be played with a PS VR headset. Most of them are entirely exclusive to PlayStation VR, but some have been previously released on PC. Also, some, if not most, of these games will eventually be coming to PC too. The important takeaway, though, is that these games will not have the option to run outside of VR.

Perhaps it’s also important to mention that not all of these games are uniform with regards to what type of controls are required to play them. Some games will work fine with either a standard DualShock controller or with PlayStation Move controllers, while some will require one or the other. Try and use these lists as a reference point to find games, but then follow through with additional research.
Next comes another list, which is quite a bit smaller, of games which are PS VR compatible. That means that these games are entirely functional without a PlayStation VR headset, but work in VR too. Note that several of thee games, like Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X, are already out. On October 13 they’ll simply get a patch that adds PS VR functionality. Other games, like 100ft Robot Golf, have been positioned as PS VR headline games and just have 2D functionality because the developers went the extra mile.

Those two lists make up the launch line-up for PS VR, a line-up of 30 games that should compete with any platform line-up ever at least in terms of variety. The games don’t stop there, however; Sony also released lists of games planned for release between line-up and the end of the year, as well as another for games planned for Q1 2017. That’s another 25 additional games in 2016 and more than a baker’s dozen more in 2017. Over 60 or 70 games in less than six months is very nice.
Anyone seeing these lists and thinking that maybe PlayStation VR would be a good investment after all will be disappointed to hear that the headsets continue to be sold out. Sony’s said they should be shipping more towards launch — look for boxes on retail shelves — but pre-orders are sold out.
