Destiny Servers Are Down

Destiny Servers Are Down

UPDATE: The servers are back online!

Bungie reports that the Destiny servers are down on both PS4 and Xbox One. As of right now the most common error code players are getting is Tapir, the same error code that appeared on Rise of Iron’s launch night. It’s unclear what is causing the server outage, but players should be aware that it could be a while until Destiny is live again. As of this writing, the servers have been down for close to an hour.

The outage could not have come at a more inconvenient time, as many Destiny players are trying to grind their way through the first Iron Banner event since Rise of Iron’s launch in mid-September. In fact, many are flocking to Iron Banner because the revamped reward system has both made sure players are consistently getting better drops and is consistently raising their light level.

The hope is that the outage will not go on for too long, but there is no guarantee with unexpected down times. It’s possible that this is just the result of an influx of Iron Banner players, or it could be the byproduct of something a little more nefarious. Popular games are typically the victim of online attacks, but usually some hacking group comes forward to take responsibility. So far, no one has done such a thing.

As we mentioned, this is the second time in less than a month that the Destiny servers have had problems. The first, on Rise of Iron launch night, was the result of a massive influx of players both old and new. It was actually the first time in recent memory that Bungie has used a server queue system, which tallied somewhere in the 500,000 range before players actually started gaining access to the game.

This time, however, is more like an actual server outage, which we have seen before in Destiny. Eventually Bungie will give the all-clear sign, but for now it’s best to keep your eyes peeled to the official Bungie Help twitter account or this post for any updates.

Destiny: Rise of Iron is out now for PS4 and Xbox One.
