Mafia 3 Launch Trailer Arrives

Mafia 3 Launch Trailer Arrives

Hangar 13 and 2K unleash the launch trailer for the highly anticipated Mafia 3, navigating the game’s New Orleans setting and showing off its seedy underbelly.

Mafia 3 is one of the most surprising games of 2016, and it hasn’t even released yet. The hotly anticipated title is receiving a lot of coverage that is heralding it as the game that will finally make good on all the promise that its predecessors showed but ultimately failed to capitalize on. That Mafia 3 has also built up a surprising amount of hype in a year that will feature the arrival of Final Fantasy 15 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare among others is a testament to just how much people are intrigued by what 2K has shown of the game thus far.

Mafia 3‘s E3 2016 trailer accomplished much in demonstrating that the game is a serious contender this year, but it has been video content released in the past month that has gamers believing that the game’s potential will be realized. Now, just one day away from the game’s release, Hangar 13 and 2K have unleashed the Mafia 3 launch trailer, a video that whisks viewers away into a whirlwind of snapshots that illustrate the many different settings players can expect to find themselves in during gameplay.

The trailer, which also features an original track produced just for Mafia 3 by Ice Cube and DJ Shadow, is a purely cinematic experience that is meant to demonstrate the myriad characters and environments that Mafia 3‘s New Orleans will offer. It does a good job showcasing that, although it would’ve been nice to see a bit more of Mafia 3‘s exciting combat on the even of its release.

Still, with plenty of looks at that combat already documented on various YouTube videos and streams, a cinematic trailer goes a long way in delivering one last hype-filled look at a game that fans will finally get a chance to judge for themselves tomorrow. The fact that Mafia 3 is even being mentioned in the same breath as 2016 holiday season juggernauts like Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is already a win for Hangar 13 and 2K, but the development team will be hoping for more once reviews begin to surface and gamers make their opinions known, as they inevitably always do.

For Mafia 3, the latest instalment in a series that has been admittedly lackluster up until this point, the launch trailer signifies just how far the game has come and the distance it has put between itself and its disappointing predecessors. Only a few more hours remain until the gaming world sees whether that distance will be measured in feet or in miles.

Mafia 3 arrives tomorrow on October 7, 2016 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
