Dishonored: Definitive Edition Coming?

In most cases, when it comes to a game reveal the last people to “inform” the gaming public are the publishers/developers. By the time the actual companies making the game are ready to make their reveal announcement, the game in question has typically been leaked by one source or the next. A LinkedIn profile here, a GameStop flyer there – ultimately it’s near impossible to have anything kept secret anymore.

Elder Scrolls and Fallout developer Bethesda has been relatively lucky when it comes to secrets, as most of their biggest reveals have gotten by without truly being spoiled. Well, at least they used to get away with it.

Unfortunately for Bethesda, who also publishes a few noteworthy titles like The Evil Within and DOOM, one of their upcoming releases may have accidentally been outed by a Brazilian rating. This is the second such incident we’ve seen in the last week, with the other being the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition.

Coincidentally, this other unannounced game is another current-gen remaster, only for Bethesda’s successful first person stealth game, Dishonored. According to the listing, there is a Dishonored: Definitive Edition on the way, presumably for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

While the Brazilian rating doesn’t provide much in the way of detail, it’s easy to assume a Dishonored remaster would be legitimate. It seems the practice nowadays is to take any game released on last-gen and port it over to current-gen as a way to bypass the lack of backwards compatibility on the PS4 and Xbox One, and make a little money in the process.

Current-gen remasters are also seemingly a great way to keep brand awareness high in time for the reveal of a new franchise entry. From God of War to Gears of War to Tomb Raider, nearly every major game with a current-gen title in the works has had either a confirmed or rumored remaster revealed.

So, with Dishonored 2 rumored to make an appearance during Bethesda’s pre-E3 press conference, or at least be on display during the main event, it’s easy to believe a Dishonored: Definitive Edition is on the way. Presumably this wouldn’t be just a port of the last-gen versions, but would include some graphical improvements as well as the previously released DLC, but that’s pure speculation. It’s also entirely possible that some misinformation is being fed into the air by this Brazilian ratings board. However, if either the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition or the Dishonored: Definitive Edition is revealed at some point, it might be a safe bet to assume the other current-gen remaster is also real and on the way.

Are you interested in a current-gen remaster of Dishonored? Do you think Dishonored 2 will be announced this year?
