Destiny Speedrunner Beats Story Mission in 2 Minutes

Destiny speedrunner JukesAndStuff shows off why they’re one of the best the game has to offer, setting a personal best rushing through the Scourge of Winter mission.

Speedrunning has become something of a video game community staple in the past few years, thanks in large part to the semi-annual charity stream Games Done Quick, which showcases the scene’s top speedrunning talents across a variety of games. It’s always a spectacle, and it’s frequently mind-blowing, as players glitch and finesse their way through games like Fallout 3 in under 15 minutes. While some games are obvious inclusions, like classic Super Mario Bros. or Metroid titles, there are many that surprise people as well – including Destiny,

Destiny‘s speedrunning community isn’t large by any stretch of the imagination, but it is dedicated, and that commitment is on full display whenever one of its premier talents uploads a video of them blazing through missions that take most players ten-to-twenty times longer. JukesAndStuff, one of those exceptional talents, has become so good they’ve taken to one-upping themselves as a challenge. The popular speedrunner uploaded a video this week of them cruising through a solo Scourge of Winter run at a time of 2 minutes and 12 seconds, a new personal best for the Guardian.

The most impressive thing about JukesAndStuff’s run is their handling of the Sparrow, Destiny‘s motorized ground transport that often handles as though it is constantly slipping on ice. On top of that, Sparrows only take a couple of hits from enemies to blow up, meaning that the route JukesAndStuff planned was both meticulously detailed and flawlessly executed. The speedrun is truly a sight to behold, and should have quite a few Destiny players attempting to get a better handle on the Sparrow in the coming weeks to see if they can pull it off as well.

Of course, the Destiny community is no stranger to feats of strength being performed by players looking to showcase their specific talents. The depth of combat and gameplay in Bungie’s shooter is what keeps players sticking around well after the story has overstayed its welcome, and the result is developing a playerbase talented enough to win Trials of Osiris matches on their own.

While the players are still thriving, as JukesAndStuff so deftly proves in their latest video, the same might not be said for Bungie itself, as the developer’s form has been questionable of late. On top of brutal drop rates on key items in Rise of Iron, Bungie also suffered through a Destiny server power outage last night without any warning to players. While that problem has since been fixed, it’s certainly a dour note for a game that should be celebrating its latest expansion’s successful launch instead.

Destiny: Rise of Iron is available now on PS4 and Xbox One.
