Far Cry Primal Main Character Has a Familiar Voice

Ubisoft reveals that the main character of Far Cry Primal will be voiced by an industry veteran who has lent his voice to Deus Ex and Assassin’s Creed titles before.

Although not much is known about Far Cry Primal‘s main character, Takkar, Ubisoft has revealed what he’s going to sound like. Elias Toufexis took to Twitter today to announce his involvement in Ubisoft’s newest entry in the Far Cry series, stating, “Yeah. I play the lead character in this bad boy.”

Toufexis is probably most recognizable for his role as Adam Jensen in Square Enix’s Deus Ex: Human Revolution, a role he’s set to reprise in next year’s Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. Toufexis has also lent his voice to other well-known properties, however, including Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Assassin’s Creed Unity, and Need for Speed: Carbon.

Some gamers might even recognize Toufexis beyond his talented voice. The actor featured heavily in the Deux Ex: Mankind Divided E3 trailer, where fans took control of Toufexis in the interactive video in order to unlock information about one of the game’s newer features. It will be interesting to see where Toufexis goes with the voice of Takkar, who represents quite a shift from Adam Jensen’s technologically advanced future.

Far Cry Primal has only been on gamers’ radar for the past 24 hours, but its already making waves throughout the community. According to Ubisoft, Primal will be a “full-fledged single-player experience” set in 10,000 BC, and will feature dangerous wildlife like woolly mammoths and sabretooth tigers roaming an area called Oros. Toufexis’ Takkar will be the last surviving member of his hunting group, and will presumably be pitted against the usual Far Cry mix of beasts and fellow humans.

Although the game is being marketed with the tagline “rise against extinction”, Ubisoft has already said there will be no dinosaurs in Far Cry Primal. That might be to avoid making a game too similar to Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, which featured gigantic reptiles in a bizarre mashup of Far Cry 3 and an ’80s neon sci-fi fever dream. Regardless, with so little information available for Far Cry Primal, it is nice to know the game’s main character’s vocal chords are in capable hands.

Do you think character voices in video games can make or break a title? Have any examples? Let us know in the comments below.

Far Cry Primal will be available on February 23, 2016 for PS4 and Xbox One. A PC release is planned for the following month, in March of 2016.
