Terry Crews Visits Overwatch Studio

Actor and former NFL player Terry Crews pays a visit to Blizzard’s Overwatch team, sparking speculation that he will voice a new character in the game.

A few weeks ago, Terry Crews set the Internet ablaze when he expressed his desire to voice Doomfist in Overwatch. While we still don’t know if Doomfist is being added to the game as a playable character or if Terry Crews is being signed on to work on it at all, we do know that Crews recently visited Blizzard.

As revealed on his personal Facebook account, Crews visited the Overwatch team at Blizzard. The details of his visit are still unknown at this time, but the trip will lead to fan speculation that Blizzard is taking Crews up on his offer of playing a character in the game, presumably the one he wants to play, Doomfist.

For the uninitiated, Doomfist is an important character in Overwatch lore. Serving as an antagonist to the titular Overwatch team, Doomfist is a moniker passed on from one person to the next, each wielding a powerful gauntlet that they use in battle. Doomfist has been rumored as a future character addition to Overwatch for a long time, and we know multiple DLC characters are in development, so it’s certainly possible he is next in line, and Crews will in fact be providing the voice work to bring the character to life.

Of course, that’s just speculation at this time. Crews is a known celebrity gamer, who has built his own gaming PC and plays Overwatch regularly, and so it’s possible he was just visiting Blizzard for fun. However, if we assume he didn’t just make the trip to Blizzard to see the sights, the most likely scenario does seem to be that he was there to discuss the possibility of voicing Doomfist or another DLC character.

If Terry Crews is providing the voice for Doomfist, it’s hard to say when the character will be added to the game. As it stands, Blizzard just updated Overwatch to include a rather extensive Symmetra buff and the Winter Wonderland event, and the game’s next big update is expected to add the new Oasis map. For now, it seems as though Blizzard has plenty of content for the next couple of updates, so it could be months before a new character is added.

We have no idea when to expect Doomfist’s addition to Overwatch, if he is even coming at all, but if he is coming to the game, hopefully Blizzard shares some details soon. While the Winter Wonderland event and the upcoming new map should keep fans engaged with Overwatch for a while longer, it would be nice to have a new confirmed character to look forward to in 2017.

Overwatch is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
