PlayStation 4's 5 Most Exciting Upcoming Exclusives

PlayStation 4's 5 Most Exciting Upcoming Exclusives

2015 wasn’t the PS4’s strongest year in terms of exclusive games. Uncharted 4 slipped to 2016, and besides Bloodborne and Until Dawn, there wasn’t a lot that Sony brought to the table, relying on high quality third party releases instead. Sony even admitted to having a “sparse lineup” this year, and while that may be true, it looks like the future of the PS4 will make up for that and then some.

These five titles are set to release for the PS4 within the next few years, and each one has potential to be a massive hit. Furthermore, all five of the games on this list are exclusive to the PS4, which will boost the console’s value and solidify it as a must-own gaming system.

Detroit: Become Human

First revealed during Paris Games Week, Detroit: Become Human is an extension of the “Kara” tech demo shown off by Quantic Dream. Set in a world where androids are lifelike enough to live among humans, the game will explore mature themes about what it really means to be alive. Detroit: Become Human looks as though it will largely focus on narrative, and hopefully David Cage and Quantic Dream are able to cook up something that surpasses their previous efforts.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake

Final Fantasy 7 Remake may wind up on other platforms one day, but for now, it is considered exclusive to the PS4. That’s a good thing for Sony, as there is a considerable amount of hype behind the game, and it is sure to be a landmark release for the industry. Even so, some have expressed concerns about Final Fantasy 7 Remake‘s new battle system and its episodic nature. Despite these misgivings, game director Tetsuya Nomura and his team at Square Enix should still be able to deliver an experience that meets and possibly exceeds fan expectations based on what we’ve seen so far.

Horizon: Zero Dawn

It’s hard to believe that the same people behind the dark, grim Killzone series are making something as vibrant and beautiful as Horizon: Zero Dawn. A serious departure from the Killzone franchise, Horizon features a female lead and third-person gameplay. It has been one of the most anticipated PS4 exclusives ever since its E3 2015 gameplay trailer, and has potential to be one of this generation’s big new IPs if Guerrilla Games pulls it off properly. Horizon: Zero Dawn is scheduled for release in 2016, so expect to see more on it in the coming months.

The Last Guardian

The Last Guardian was trapped in development hell for what seemed like forever, but then as a part of a miraculous E3 presentation (which also saw the announcements of Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Shenmue 3), Sony announced that the planned PS3 exclusive had shifted gears to the PS4. Those in attendance at E3 were stunned by the gameplay trailer for The Last Guardian, which featured an evolved experience. Like Horizon: Zero DawnThe Last Guardian is also set to release next year, so hopefully fans don’t have to wait too much longer to get their hands on the long-anticipated game.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Once the PlayStation 4’s biggest game of 2015, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will now define 2016 for Sony’s console. Set to be the last Uncharted gameUncharted 4 will conclude the harrowing adventures of Nathan Drake and company, and will mark Naughty Dog’s new-gen debut. From what has been shown so far, Uncharted 4 looks very impressive, and it will be interesting to see how it all ends for Nathan Drake when the game launches on March 18th, 2016.

All things considered, 2016 is shaping up to be the biggest year for the PS4 yet. While Detroit: Become Human and Final Fantasy 7 Remake may not release until 2017 or later, Horizon: Zero DawnThe Last Guardian, and Uncharted 4 are all on track for release next year. Sony apologized for its “sparse lineup” of games in 2015, but it looks like there will be no need for that in 2016 and beyond, as numerous titles brimming with potential are on the way.
