Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite Targeting Late 2017 Launch

Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite Targeting Late 2017 Launch

Capcom producer Tomoaki Ayano reveals a more specific release window for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, indicating that the game will release in late 2017.

One of the biggest surprises of the 2016 PlayStation Experience was the announcement of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. Even more surprising was that the game was far enough along in development that Capcom was able to confirm a 2017 release for the long-awaited fighting game. Now thanks to Capcom producer Tomoaki Ayano, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite fans have an even more specific release window of when they can expect the game to hit store shelves.

Speaking with 4Gamer about Capcom’s fighting game lineup in 2017, Ayano let slip that Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is aiming to release late in the year. This would put the game’s release smack-dab in the middle of the fall gaming rush season, which makes sense, as it is likely to be one of 2017’s biggest titles.

Unfortunately, Ayano stopped short of announcing a release month for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, but it’s possible a specific release date could be announced at next year’s E3 event in June. And since Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite was originally unveiled during the PlayStation Experience, fans can expect its probable E3 showcase to take place during Sony’s press conference at the show, perhaps with the reveal of some PlayStation-exclusive perks as well.

Marvel vs Capcom Infinite Targeting Late 2017 Release Date - Iron Man

E3 aside, in the months leading up to the game’s eventual release date, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite enthusiasts can look forward to more reveals about the game. For many, the most exciting reveals will be the announcement of new characters, especially those that have never been in a Marvel vs. Capcom game before, like the recently revealed Mega Man X and Captain Marvel, for example. It will also be fun to see which returning characters will be featured in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, with the likes of Captain America, Iron Man, Ryu, and more already confirmed for the crossover fighting game.

Beyond character reveals, the months leading up to Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite‘s launch should be filled with other news on the game, like information on new features and gameplay mechanics. We’ve already been shown in the intriguing Infinity Stone system, which should add an interesting wrinkle to the combat, along with the switch to two-on-two battles as opposed to the three-person teams that have defined the series in the past.

Since the game was just announced, a late 2017 release date makes more sense than the game launching in the summer or earlier, and it also gives Capcom plenty more time to build hype for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. So far, reception to the game seems to be mostly positive, and if it lives up to the hype, perhaps Capcom will revive other dormant franchises in the future.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite Warfare will release in late 2017 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
