PS4 2017 Sizzle Reel Teases Exclusive Games

PS4 2017 Sizzle Reel Teases Exclusive Games

To kick off the new year, Sony releases a sizzle reel trailer that highlights upcoming PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR exclusives, though one game is shown on accident.

2016 is officially in the books, and now the gaming industry is looking forward to what the new year will bring. For PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR owners, 2017 will bring with it a number of high profile exclusive games, ranging from racing games to open world adventures and more. To give PlayStation fans a taste of what to expect from the console in 2017, Sony has released an exciting new sizzle reel that highlights these exclusives, and one game that actually won’t release this year, Detroit: Become Human.

Detroit: Become Human is the next title from Quantic Dream, the studio behind innovative games like Indigo Prophecy and Heavy Rain. As seen by the game’s E3 2016 trailerDetroit: Become Human takes its cues from Quantic Dream’s past titles, with a story that changes drastically based on player choice. Even though the ambitious game is included in the PS4 2017 sizzle reel, though, Shuhei Yoshida has stated on Twitter that its inclusion in the trailer was a mistake.

It seems like a rather glaring mistake to feature Detroit: Become Human in the trailer of upcoming 2017 PS4 exclusive games, and it’s odd that it wasn’t caught before the trailer was released to the masses. It’s possible that Detroit: Become Human is actually aiming for a 2017 release, but Sony is hoping to save that announcement for an E3 surprise this summer, or maybe the game is taking longer to develop than expected, so its planned 2017 launch has been pushed back.

Besides Detroit: Become Human, which may or may not actually release in 2017, the PlayStation trailer also highlights some other exciting PS4 exclusives on the way later this year. It gives fans another look at Horizon: Zero Dawn from Guerrilla Games, a peak at Gran Turismo Sport, and also shows some footage from Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, a standalone Uncharted story that was announced in December at the PlayStation Experience.

The trailer also gives fans an idea of what games likely won’t see release this year because of their absence, like the new God of War game and Insomniac’s Spider-Man game. If this trailer is a comprehensive look at the games PlayStation owners can look forward to in 2017, then it seems as though both of those blockbuster releases may not see the light of day until 2018 or later.

Of course, since Detroit: Become Human was included in the trailer by accident, perhaps the trailer is not really a reliable of an indicator of the games fans will actually see release this year. Maybe Spider-Man will release this summer to coincide with the release of Spider-Man: Homecoming in theaters, and perhaps God of War will be Sony’s big fall game instead of launching in 2018, especially since the game is already playable from start to finish. Whatever the case may be, fans should learn more concrete release information on these games and those shown in the sizzle reel come E3 in June.

Detroit: Become Human is in development for PS4.
