Today Is Last Day of Sony's PSN Holiday Sale

Sony Interactive Entertainment officially announces today as being the last day for fans to take advantage of its Holiday Sale on the PlayStation Network.

With Sony on track to sell 60 million PS4 consoles by April 1, 2017, the company has decided it can stand to offer one more day of doling out discounts to its myriad fans around the globe. As it happens, the tech firm’s recent Holiday Sale for 2016 on PSN is set to end today, January 2, giving fans one last full day of shopping to purchase games and movies at considerably reduced rates.

All of the deals on PSN can be found through the PlayStation Store’s website, with plenty of game deals being spread across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita platforms, in addition to there being some noteworthy movies discounted as well. As far as video games are concerned, the discounts include Battlefield 1 for $40, FIFA 17 for $30, Street Fighter 5 for $20, Titanfall 2 for $30, and perhaps the most cost-efficient of the pack being The Witcher 3 Complete Edition for $25.

Although Sony’s Holiday Sale officially ends at 8:00 AM PT / 11:00 AM ET tomorrow, it doesn’t mean that PlayStation fans won’t have any more deals in the pipeline. As a matter of fact, once the PSN sale has concluded, the next day, January 3, PlayStation Plus’ free games for January 2017 go live, presenting six complimentary titles on the house.

While Sony’s Holiday Sale is giving PlayStation fans remarkably deep discounts, it’s worth noting that the company is ending the period in price reduction a lot sooner than its competitor Microsoft will be. As a matter of fact, Microsoft will be extending its own Xbox Live Countdown Sale nearly six whole days longer than Sony’s, giving the firm behind the Xbox a better opportunity at making more software sales.

As 2016 fades away in the rear view mirror, 2017 is set to provide gamers with lots of fresh releases in addition to those included in Sony and Microsoft’s respective holiday sales lists. Some are asking the question if 2017 will be the year of Xbox, with numerous others pointing to the next 12 months being dominated by the PlayStation brand, especially with the company having recently released a solid sizzle reel full of the platform’s exclusive games for 2017.

Naturally, though, it’s anyone’s guess as to whether or not Sony or Microsoft will take the cake when it comes to 2017, especially since the year literally began roughly two days ago. Plus, if both companies continue to offer decent discounts at sporadic points throughout the year with prices comparable to the games and movies in the holiday sales, then it will likely be even more difficult to determine which firm will pull ahead of the other.

Today is the last day for 2016’s Holiday Sale on PSN with the deals ending at 8:00 AM PT / 11:00 AM ET on January 3.
