Quantum Break Release Date

Quantum Break Release Date

While Microsoft’s E3 2013 press conference is largely remembered for the company embarrassing themselves over the always-online functionality of the Xbox One, there were also some awe-inspiring console exclusives shown from third parties. Perhaps most notably, the extremely impressive shooter Titanfall and the unique video game/television hybrid from the creators of Max PayneQuantum Break.

Whereas Titanfall has since released, Quantum Break has yet to see the light of day. The game has been delayed numerous times, with the most recent delay pushing Quantum Break to 2016. However, fans of developers Remedy Entertainment finally have an end in sight for their long wait, as Head of Xbox Phil Spencer has strongly suggested that a firm release date for Quantum Break is coming at this year’s Gamescom event.

This is fitting, as the last substantial details and footage for Quantum Break came at last year’s Gamescom event, in the form of an extended gameplay trailer. For those that haven’t been keeping up with Quantum Break, the concept behind the game is somewhat hard to explain, but it’s basically a combination of a video game and a television program (featuring actors from The Lord of the Rings and X-Men as part of the cast), with the gameplay feeling like a mix of the high octane action of Max Payne and the surreal atmosphere of Alan Wake.

Quantum Break was originally one of numerous TV projects that Microsoft was preparing for in order to provide a bevy of original television content for the Xbox One. Unfortunately, Microsoft abandoned this prospect, but Quantum Break has reportedly been filmed and is complete. This first game will count as the “first season” of the larger story, but there’s still a lot of unanswered questions about how this unique video game/TV hybrid will actually work.

Those that want to see Quantum Break presented live during Microsoft’s Gamescom 2015 press conference will have a chance to do so at 9am Pacific time this coming Tuesday, August 4th. It will be streamed live through Xbox Live, and if Head of Xbox Phil Spencer is to be believed, a firm release date for Quantum Break will be announced during the event.

Besides Quantum Break, Microsoft is bringing two other heavy hitter Xbox One exclusives to the show, in the form of Crackdown and Scalebound. The former is the third entry in the open world action game series that began on Xbox 360, and the latter is a brand new IP from Platinum Games, the creators of Bayonetta and many other critically acclaimed titles.

Quantum Break is currently scheduled for a vague spring 2016 release, but according to Phil Spencer, a firm release date will be announced to the world this coming Tuesday at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany during the Microsoft press conference.
