Injustice 2 Confirms Poison Ivy, Bane, & Black Canary

NetherRealm Studios releases a new gameplay trailer for Injustice 2 that features Black Canary in action, plus confirms Bane, Brainiac, and Poison Ivy for the roster.

With a few months to go until Injustice 2 hits store shelves, NetherRealm Studios is ramping up character confirmations. The studio updated its official website earlier today to confirm that previously seen characters like Poison Ivy, Bane, and Brainiac are all playable, and it also released a brand new gameplay trailer that announces Black Canary for the fighting game’s roster of DC superheroes and villains.

The new trailer features Black Canary facing off against some titans of the DC Universe, including Brainiac, Atrocitus, and more, utilizing a variety of technology-based attacks, her trademark “Canary Cry” scream, and some impressive feats of athleticism. It seems as though Black Canary will be one of the faster characters on the roster in Injustice 2, and one that has a variety of MMA-inspired grappling moves at her disposal as well.

Anyone that wants to see Black Canary in action should check out the gameplay trailer courtesy of IGN below. In the meantime, it will be interesting to see if Black Canary is featured in the game’s online multiplayer beta. After all, Black Canary wasn’t in the original Injustice game, and since she is a brand new character to the franchise, fans may want the chance to test her out before the game launches in May.

Black Canary joins a number of other characters that are making their franchise debut as playable characters in Injustice 2, including the likes of Gorilla Grodd, Blue Beetle, and Supergirl. Supergirl’s inclusion in Injustice 2 is especially important, as the character is set to play a pivotal role in the game’s story, if the story trailers released by NetherRealm are any indication.

Black Canary’s role in the story doesn’t seem to be quite as integral as Supergirl’s, but in the new trailer, we are still given a glimpse as to what role she may play. At one point in the trailer, Black Canary is about to fight Blue Beetle, who is apparently trying to join forces with Batman by defeating her in battle. Alternatively, the conversation about Batman between Black Canary and Blue Beetle could just be one of the throwaway lines the characters say to each other prior to exhibition matches, so it doesn’t necessarily have to be something tied to the plot.

Injustice 2‘s release is just a few months away, and so fans should learn more about Black Canary’s purpose in the story soon enough. In the meantime, expect NetherRealm Studios to keep revealing new characters for the roster, and keep an eye out for the announcement of rumored guest characters like Sub-Zero and Spawn.

Injustice 2 will be available on May 16th for Android, iOS, PS4, and Xbox One.
