Mortal Kombat XL Announced for PS4 and Xbox One

NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Interactive announce Mortal Kombat XL for PS4 and Xbox One, which comes with MKX and all of the previously released DLC.

NetherRealm Studios’ brutal fighting game Mortal Kombat X was undoubtedly one of the most highly anticipated games of last year. With fans eager to play the first Mortal Kombat game made for current gen consoles, it was little surprise when it shot to the top of the sales charts.

Not only did Mortal Kombat X become the fastest selling game in the series but it was also the best-selling game of April 2015, beating out Grand Theft Auto 5 for the top spot. Soon though, the game could once again be selling big as publisher Warner Bros. Interactive has just announced Mortal Kombat XL.

Called the “definitive” and “ultimate” Mortal Kombat X experience, Mortal Kombat XL includes the award-winning base game as well as the post-launch DLC. With the XL version of the game (which will be available digital and in retail on PS4 and Xbox One), players will be able to get their hands on all of the content released in the game’s Kombat Packs.

Kombat Pack 1 includes: Predator, Jason Voorhees, Tremor and Tanya as playable characters, three themed skins and the Samurai Skin Pack. Kombat Pack 2 adds even more characters to the already-bursting roster, including: the Xenomorph (from Alien), Leatherface (from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Triborg, Bo’Rai Cho and Goro, who was initially available to Mortal Kombat X players as a pre-order bonus. The Kombat Pack 2 will also feature the Brazil Skin Pack, the Kold War Skin Pack (including the Kold War Scorpion Skin), and the Apocalypse Skin Pack.

While Mortal Kombat XL‘s price has yet to be revealed, those who are interested in the MK series but have yet to take the plunge will no doubt see this as an appealing offer. Recently, NetherRealm vowed to boost the game’s online performance, having recently begun sign ups for an enhanced online beta.

Expected to offer ‘bare-bones’ gameplay as the developer works out the kinks in the game’s online gameplay, there’s a good chance that things will be in tip top shape by the time Mortal Kombat XL is released. That’s great news for those who heard about the game’s online issues and stayed well away as a result.

Other fans, however, are concerned that this means that Mortal Kombat X will not be getting a Kombat Pack 3. If the game is getting a ‘definitive’ edition now, then it could mean that this is it for the game’s DLC. And if it is getting more DLC, then those who buy the XL version may feel like they’re being duped. Hopefully Warner Bros. and NetherRealm clarify soon.

Mortal Kombat XL will be released on March 1, 2016 on PS4 and Xbox One.
