Fallout 4 Mod Swaps VATS For Slow-Motion Bullet Time

A new Fallout 4 mod gives players the option to use a slow-motion Bullet Time mode with their Action Points instead of the VATS, the iconic Fallout targeting system.

The VATS combat system is an iconic part of the Fallout series that allows players to slow or even stop time to target specific parts of an enemy. However, not every player is in love with VATS, and one modder has created a fun alternative for those who’d like something a bit less restrictive.

Fallout 4 modder registrator2000 has created a Bullet Time mod that allows players to blend real-time combat and VATS to their liking. Rather than forcing the player to stay in one position while they fire off their shots at a portion of the enemy’s body, the mod allows players to slow time significantly and fire at will. Players can enter bullet time whenever they see fit and it slowly depletes AP while the mode is in use.

Bethesda made significant changes to the VATS system in Fallout 4. In Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, VATS would entirely freeze combat, allowing players to take essentially pause and their time to consider which part of the enemy they should target. Fallout 4 changed VATS by only making it slow down combat, but some were dissatisfied with the changes, since enemies could move but players could not. Allowing players to move freely with the Bullet Time mod means that players can attempt to dodge enemy fire and change targets when whatever they are firing at becomes blocked due to the environment or the enemy taking cover.

The Bullet Time mod also allows players to tweak their settings to make the game easier or more difficult. Players can choose to slow combat down to the level of VATS, or barely slow it down at all. The amount of AP that the mod uses is also fully customizable, meaning players can lengthen or shorten the time spent in Bullet Time mode to either decrease or increase the difficulty for themselves.

The Bullet Time mod looks like a lot of fun for players who either found VATS too easy or too limiting. It’s also the latest in mods that significantly alter the basic gameplay found in Fallout 4. Prior mods have included the reintroduction of traits from Fallout 3, giving players jet packs, or a crazy mod that lets Fallout 4 players use arms as blunt weapons.

The customization of Bethesda’s games are part of what makes them so much fun, as players can tweak them to suit their play style. With the announcement that players will soon be able to enjoy Fallout 4 mods for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, soon more than just PC players will be able to take advantage of these wacky modifications.

Fallout 4 is now available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
