Kojima and del Toro to Reunite for Special Address

Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima and filmmaker Guillermo del Toro reunite later this month at the 2016 D.I.C.E. Summit in Las Vegas to provide the keynote address.

Although Silent Hills was cancelled, the ill-fated game’s co-creators are set to speak together during this year’s D.I.C.E. Summit and Awards on Thursday, February 18, as the two will “offer insight into their creative vision and the driving forces behind their artistic pursuits.” The session is being called “A Conversation with Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro”, and it will be moderated by long-time games industry figure and The Game Awards organizer, Geoff Keighley.

While it’s not clear at this point as to whether or not the D.I.C.E. Summit will be streaming online, if last year is any indication, it should be broadcasted live via Twitch. Hopefully, everyone won’t have to physically attend the event to hear the conversation, for its description makes it sound unmissable, as it reads:

“This conversation will revisit some of their fondest memories from their own individual careers as well as some of the pivotal moments from each other’s work that remain a constant source of inspiration.”

The discussion will more than likely focus on the artists’ triumphs and their insights into the creative process, but it’s possible for them to at least touch on the whole mess involving their past relationship with Konami, especially considering that both of them will be together and expounding upon the games industry. However, a couple of months ago, Kojima revealed that he is “contractually forbidden” from talking about his split from Konami, so if it is mentioned, it will probably be in passing.

On top of the two creators providing this year’s keynote address at the proceedings, Guillermo del Toro is set to induct Hideo Kojima into the Hall of Fame for the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences. With that being the case, the Metal Gear Solid creator will soon stand alongside the likes of important game developers such as Shigeru Miyamoto, Will Wright, Gabe Newell, and many others.

Even though Kojima and del Toro’s previous collaboration fell through, it doesn’t mean that future projects can’t come to fruition. After all, the two still want to make a new game together. Plus, considering the path that Kojima’s taken as of late with his opening of a new studio, touring the world to discover its most cutting edge technology, and the official partnership with Sony to make a PlayStation exclusive game, there’s an extremely high chance of them working with one another yet again to craft something completely exciting.

The 19th Annual D.I.C.E. Summit and Awards is set to happen on February 18, 2016.
