Gears of War 4 Has Gone Gold

The Coalition’s Gears of War 4 is finally announced as complete, with the company hosting a launch event alongside Microsoft’s Board of Directors to celebrate.

It’s time for Microsoft fans to get very excited, as Gears of War 4 has finally gone Gold, ready to release next month. The first entry in the series to be developed by The Coalition, rather than Epic Games, Gears 4 celebrated its completion yesterday in Vancouver.

For those who are unaware, “Going Gold” is a term used to indicate a game’s 100% completion, meaning that the Gears of War 4 master disk will now be shipped off to be replicated at Xbox facilities around the world. As is often the case with AAA titles, an event was held to commemorate the achievement, hosting Microsoft’s Board of Directors alongside Xbox Boss Phil Spencer and The Coalition’s Rod Fergusson.

Releasing in less than a month, Gears of War 4 has been highly-anticipated by the Xbox community, but now players on PC will also have a chance to play, courtesy of Microsoft’s new Play Anywhere feature that was announced at E3 2016. Fans who purchase the game on Xbox One can pick up and play anytime on their Windows 10 PCs, or vice versa, meaning that PC gamers won’t be left out of this generation’s new Gears experience.

“With Gears of War 4, I’m very proud of what the team at The Coalition has achieved,” Spencer commented in the announcement post on Xbox Wire. “Not only is it the most technically ambitious Gears game yet… it’s a return to the grounded, tense and brutal tone that made so many fall in love with this universe, story and characters for the first time.”

For those looking at getting into the franchise for the first time, Gears of War 4 takes place 25 years after the events of the previous entry in the main series, with a new cast of characters holding the reins. The game’s launch trailer seems to indicate that original protagonist Marcus Fenix will be making a significant appearance in the title, as well as hinting that this may finally be the story where his adventure reaches its conclusion.

Wave-based combat in a fan-favorite game mode, Horde 3.0 will undoubtedly also be a big part of the Gears of War 4 experience. Now with new features such as character classes, Horde mode looks better than ever in its premiere gameplay trailer that released last month. For the first time in a Gears title, players will be able to create and set down defenses, turrets, and weapons, where ever they want to on the map, which is sure to help when facing the locust swarms.

Gears of War 4 launches on Xbox One and PC on October 11, 2016.
