Dishonored 2 Skipping E3?

Dishonored 2 Skipping E3?

At this rate, the most important news coming out of E3 2015 might be what’s not shown there. Square Enix’s biggest game, Final Fantasy 15, has already been confirmed as a no-show. Sega won’t be there at all. Bethesda’s throwing its first ever E3 press conference, but if the rumors are true, the highly anticipated post-apocalyptic RPG Fallout 4 will only be shown behind closed doors.

Now, add another game to the list. Dishonored 2, Arkane Studios’ follow-up to 2012’s stealth-focused action-adventure title, might skip E3 as well. This information comes via PCGames.de, the same site that started the rumors about Fallout 4. According to PCGames.de, developers at Arkane feel like the game needs more work before its public unveiling. Bethesda might bring a brief trailer to the show, but the actual game will remain locked away at the Arkane studios.

So far, this is just a rumor; Bethesda has yet to weigh in, but given that Dishonored 2 hasn’t been officially announced yet, don’t expect any sort of confirmation until E3 – if the game is discussed at all.

Rumors regarding a Dishonored sequel started last spring, when the game’s logo was supposedly leaked online. The screen, which sources claimed was lifted from a PowerPoint deck, promised “a full reveal at E3 2014,” and was accompanied by the hashtag #DarknessAtTyvia, referring to a referenced, but not featured, location from the first game. As fans know, the big reveal didn’t happen, and Dishonored 2 remains a topic of intense speculation – and little else.

Still, at some point, a Dishonored sequel seems all but inevitable. Dishonored was one of the most critically acclaimed games of 2012 and won a number of awards, including the BAFTA for Best Game. Previously, Dishonored co-creative director Raphael Colantonio shared some ideas for future games in the series, including better stealth mechanics and a possible multiplayer mode, but at the time, that was all conjecture. If Dishonored 2 is in the works, there’s no real clue what’s involved.

If Fallout 4 and Dishonored 2 do skip E3, it’s not entirely clear how Bethesda’s going to fill their hour-long press event. The Elder Scrolls Online, Bethesda’s disappointing MMORPG, releases on consoles on June 9; given that the company’s presser takes place just five days later, expect that title to get some attention. Other games that could appear include Prey 2, Bethesda’s upcoming DOOM reboot, and – although it’s a longshot – a new core entry in the Elder Scrolls franchise.
