ARK Halloween Brings Zombie Dodos, Giant Candy Corn

Developer Studio Wildcard releases Fear Evolved 2, a Halloween-themed update for ARK: Survival Evolved on PC that features plenty of zombie dodos and skeletal dinosaurs

The past few weeks have seen quite a few games get into the Halloween spirit, ranging from Blizzard’s Halloween Terror event for Overwatch to the countless developers who are supporting this year’s Steam Halloween sale with plenty of spooky titles. Now, ARK: Survival Evolved is making a late arrival to the party with a Halloween update for the second year in a row, appropriately called Fear Evolved 2.

The update launched on Friday with little prior notice and runs through November 6 for the PC version of the game. Similar to last year, many of the game’s zones have been transformed. The moon is now red, zombie Dodo birds can be found in the trees and skeletons of dinosaurs are as far as the eye can see. Additional nice touches include plenty of scarecrows and pumpkin patches to go with the multiple graves and even some giant pieces of candy corn. A brief trailer for the update can be viewed below.

New Halloween items are now available for a limited time, including themed hats and clown masks. Those looking to get in on the fun will be happy to know that ARK: Survival Evolved is currently marked down to $15 and the game’s Scorched Earth expansion is discounted to $14 until November 1 during the Steam Halloween sale. Xbox One fans should take note, however, that the update will not be coming to the console. Developer Studio Wildcard confirmed the release is PC-only when questioned by Gamespot.

ARK: Survival Evolved is still in early access but seems to be doing well for itself, having sold more than 5.5 million copies as it moves towards a full release by the end of 2016. Studio Wildcard was confident enough in its product to announce a few months ago that a free PC version of the game based on ARK‘s arena spinoff Survival of the Fittest would no longer be available, with the developer instead redirecting its focus to the main game.

Other titles with Halloween updates going on right now include a new multiplayer event in Gears of War 4 and a Halloween DLC pack for Dead by Daylight that includes Michael Myers. Destiny fans decided to take the updates that Bungie made to the title a bit further by making their own Halloween music video.

ARK: Survival Evolved is currently in Early Access, and it is scheduled for full release on Linux, Mac OS X, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One before the end of 2016.
